‘All roads lead to Michael Carrick at West Brom’ as Ryan Mason sack confirmed – Expert

Ryan Mason has finally been sacked by West Brom.

Mason was sacked on Tuesday after the Baggies’ 2-1 defeat to Leicester City, leaving them closer to the relegation zone than the Championship play-offs.

Shilen Patel had finally seen enough, but West Brom fans were calling for this to happen as they continued to watch the Albion fail under Mason’s watch.

With The Hawthorns cleared, it appears the door has now opened for Michael Carrick to step in.

All roads lead to Michael Carrick at West Brom

Dan Plumley believes that the financial aspect of sacking managers midway through the season will play a huge role in any appointment that is possibly coming.

When asked if all roads lead to free agent managers like Carrick, the football finance expert exclusively told West Brom News that it could be the case.

“This depends on the timing, I think,” Plumley said.

“So they’ve decided to pull the trigger, you’ve got the payment side of things with the contracts, but then you’ve got a question about who’s available in the market?

“It’s not very often that you see managers move clubs in this period; it tends to be at the end of the season.

That’s what West Brom now need to work out.

“After making that call, then you’re probably looking into that free agent market with the likes of Carrick, as it’s unlikely you’re going to be able to prize a manager away from a club, unless you pay big money, but there is the financial consideration to that as well.”

Who else is in the running at West Brom?

Carrick is the favourite to take over at The Hawthorns, but others are mentioned.

Carlos Corberan is second in the running, with his time at Valencia going from bad to worse, with the Mestalla turning against him rapidly.

Other names are all free agents, with the likes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Russell Martin and Gary O’Neil all mentioned by major bookmakers.

Whoever takes over, whether Carrick or somebody else, the only objective is to start winning again, home and away, and the rest will take care of itself.

Patel can’t afford to get this wrong again.
