West Brom crack on without Ryan Mason as details emerge on Remy Descamps transfer
West Brom have made an approach to sign Lyon goalkeeper Remy Descamps as they begin life without Ryan Mason.
Mason was sacked by West Brom on Tuesday, with the previous night’s defeat to Leicester City proving to be the last straw.
Michael Carrick has been touted as Mason’s West Brom successor, but for now the Baggies remain without a manager.
That has not stopped the Black Country club from cracking on with some vital transfer business, however, with details now emerging on Albion’s move for Descamps.
West Brom to battle Hull City for Remy Descamps
Many factors contributed to Mason’s exit from The Hawthorns, one of those being his side’s struggles between the sticks.
Joe Wildsmith has been guilty of silly West Brom errors, while Josh Griffiths has not covered himself in glory either.
And it appears Albion are now about to address that issue as Lyon goalkeeper Descamps has seemingly been targeted.
As per a report via French outlet Le Progres on Tuesday, West Brom and fellow Championship side Hull City have each made an offer for Descamps.
The report suggests Descamps could be tempted by the lure of more regular playing time away from Lyon and would therefore be open to a move this month.
Descamps has started four Ligue 1 games for Lyon this season and is expected to start next weekend’s Coupe de France clash with Lille.
Everything we know about former PSG prospect Descamps
Descamps joined Lyon as a free agent in the 2024 summer transfer window and is under contract with the French side for a further 16 months.
Aged 29, he has spent almost his entire career to date in his homeland, starting out with Paris Saint-Germain but never making any senior appearances.

Descamps has also represented Tours and Clermont on loan, prior to a three-year spell at Nantes, while his only club outside of France was Charleroi.
Dominik Greif is ahead of Descamps in the Lyon pecking order and it sounds as though he is now eager to find a new club where he will play regularly.
While a great deal may not be known about Descamps, it goes without saying he would be an upgrade on what West Brom have available right now.
Should the deal get struck, it would be a welcome gift for whoever eventually replaces Mason at The Hawthorns.
