Russell Martin talks update shared as West Brom eye ‘long shot’ appointment
West Brom’s search for Ryan Mason’s successor has already seen several names thrown into the mix.
Mason was sacked by West Brom on 6 January after leading them to a 99-year low, with 10 consecutive defeats away from home for the first time since the 1926/27 season.
Michael Carrick and Lee Carsley are the most prominent managers to have been linked with The Hawthorns vacancy, but they are not the only ones.
Former Southampton and Rangers boss Russell Martin is another who has been rumoured to be in consideration.

Is Russell Martin in the frame for West Brom job?
Martin was linked with the West Brom job before Mason was appointed, so it is no surprise that his name has been mentioned again.
Daily Mail journalist Tom Collomosse claimed on 6 January that Martin has not been spoken to by the Baggies, either now or previously, suggesting he is not in contention.
He stated that Carrick is admired by the hierarchy, but admitted that appointment looks like a long shot at the moment.
Why Baggies fans should be glad Martin is not in the running
Martin could not handle the heat that came with being the Rangers manager, it would not be any easier in the West Midlands.
Albion supporters are not pleased with the state of their club, so the new boss would need to hit the ground running.
Martin failed to do that in Govan, winning just five of his 17 matches in charge at Ibrox, and being handed his marching orders in October.
If he came to B71 and started in the same fashion, it would be a disaster, and Shilen Patel and Co need to steer clear of the 40-year-old.
He may be a tempting option, as he would not require any compensation to be paid to a club, as he is out of work, but they should still avoid him at all costs.
Meanwhile, Carrick would be an excellent choice, if they could prise him away from Manchester United’s clutches, as he is currently being eyed to be the interim boss at Old Trafford, with two other contenders.
