West Brom PSR revelation emerges, it’s finally some good news for Baggies fans
West Brom supporters have had to sit and suffer from Profit and Sustainability Rules for far too long.
Albion’s relegation from the Premier League has had long-standing effects on the Baggies’ ability to get back to the big time.
West Brom have been battling PSR issues for years, with Shilen Patel doing his best job to balance the books after taking over from Guochuan Lai’s mess.
Tom Fellows was sold in the summer and joins a long list of big names that have departed The Hawthorns in recent years, simply because the Albion have had to sell for PSR reasons.
The financial constraint has hindered the Black Country Club from making a real push for promotion in the past few seasons, but that could all be about to change this year.
Chris Lepkowski suggests PSR issues will ease up next season
West Brom sacked Ryan Mason on Tuesday following the Baggies’ last-minute loss to Leicester City on Monday.
Mason was stripped of key players this summer, and some would argue that he was at a disadvantage due to West Brom’s transfer business.
But the reality is that Patel and Co. have had to make decisions they may have been compelled to, to keep Albion in a stable and healthy position.
- Fellows left West Brom for around £10million
- Torbjorn Heggem left for around £9million
- West Brom also let multiple stars leave for free to ease the wage bill
While speaking on Route One, former Birmingham Mail journalist Chris Lepkowski spoke about how PSR issues could be alleviated in time for an exciting period for West Brom.
Lepkowski said: “In the last four windows, they’ve [West Brom] lost at least one big hitter to ease the PSR problems. But that three-year cycle of PSR problems should end or will end this summer.
“The current ownership has done an outstanding job of trying to maintain the club within its parameters. From this summer onwards, the club should be in better nick, it’s just about getting someone in who can keep Albion up and have them in a good position for next year and beyond.”

Supporters are in agreement that Mason had to go, and with PSR issues almost a thing of the past for Albion, surely any manager would be licking their lips at the prospect of coming to The Hawthorns.
West Brom’s next head coach round-up
West Brom have been tipped to appoint Russell Martin as their next head coach following the departure of Mason this week.
However, it has been suggested that the former Rangers and Southampton boss may wait for another opportunity to come calling.
Michael Carrick has also been linked with the job, but the ex-Middlesbrough head coach remains in Manchester United’s thinking after sacking Ruben Amorim.
West Brom fans would love Carlos Corberan to come back to The Hawthorns, but at this stage, a return looks far-fetched.
Baggies fans will hope to see a new head coach in the dugout when West Brom next play Championship football against Middlesbrough on 16 January.
