Ex-Wrexham star to join next West Brom manager as deal now fully agreed

West Brom could finally kickstart their season in January, with massive changes coming at The Hawthorns.

Ryan Mason was sacked after West Brom’s loss at Leicester on Monday, with the Baggies somehow currently sitting 18th in the Championship.

Michael Carrick instantly became the favourite to take over at The Hawthorns, with Lee Carsley another big name in the running.

Shilen Patel went back to a familiar name, instead.

Eric Ramsay agrees to become West Brom manager

Eric Ramsay was in contention before Mason was first hired, but appeared to miss out at that time.

After another positive year at Minnesota United in the MLS, Ramsay is now on the verge of finally taking over at The Hawthorns.

Pioneer Press has reported that Ramsey will accept the role as head coach at West Brom.

Compensation is likely to be demanded, but all roads lead to the Welshman taking the job, weeks after being linked with Strasbourg in France.

MNUFC News has also reported that Dennis Lawrence will likely follow Ramsay to England.

Who is Dennis Lawrence?

Earning 89 caps for the Trinidad and Tobago national side, Lawrence started his career in his homeland.

In 2001, he earned a move to Wrexham, where he made his most appearances for a single club in the United Kingdom, with 198 games over five years.

After that came moves to Swansea and Crewe, but his time at the Racecourse Ground will be where he is most fondly remembered.

Coventry are flying in the Championship, and Lawrence even played a part in that rise.

The 51-year-old was a first-team coach at the Coventry Building Society Stadium from 2021 to 2024, before leaving to follow Ramsay to Minnesota United.

That will be critical, with Lawrence having much-needed experience of the Championship that Mason so clearly lacked from a managerial standpoint.

There aren’t currently any other names likely to join Ramsay at The Hawthorns, but James Morrison will likely stick around, with Boaz Myhill also seemingly going nowhere.

With West Brom closer to relegation than the play-offs, this season may be all about getting used to Ramsay and his tactics before a big push next year.
