Gabby Agbonlahor stuns talkSPORT co-host with West Brom revelation – ‘I can’t believe it’
Gabby Agbonlahor and West Brom fans have a long-standing relationship that hasn’t always been friendly.
Agbonlahor has wound up West Brom supporters in the past due to his ties to local rivals Aston Villa.
He made his debut for Villa in 2005 and earned three caps for England before retiring in 2018.
Agbonlahor wants West Brom to earn promotion back to the Premier League, although after Ryan Mason was sacked on Tuesday, it looks unlikely this season.
His talkSPORT co-host Alan Brazil made a dig towards him, saying that he would have looked good in West Brom colours.
Alan Brazil jokes about Gabby Agbonlahor joining West Brom
The player-turned-pundit was on Villa’s books for the entirety of his career, with loan spells at Watford and Sheffield Wednesday in 2005 representing the only time he wore another club’s shirt.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Brazil teased Agbonlahor by claiming he would have suited playing at The Hawthorns on a consistent basis.
This came after Agbonlahor had earlier raised the prospect of him representing West Brom during his playing days.
He said: “Gabby said earlier he was gutted he never went to West Brom. I always thought he had a bit of a Baggie in him.
“A chance you could have joined West Brom? I can’t believe it.”
| Stat | Agbonlahor |
| Appearances | 381 |
| Goals | 85 |
| Assists | 36 |
The 39-year-old was admired for his loyalty in B6, and with Aston Villa third in the Premier League, the Baggies will be subjected to certain digs from rival fans.
In the past, Agbonlahor has spoken about his hatred for West Brom, and he has certainly made some controversial statements.
What Agbonlahor has previously said about West Brom is far from positive
In November 2023, he said on talkSPORT that he could never dream of playing for the Baggies.
“Obviously, West Brom, Wolves, local rivals. I disliked them a lot, I wouldn’t have played for them.”
On the other hand, he has also spoken about how Birmingham City and West Brom need to be in the Premier League, but only so Villa can claim the bragging rights.
In May last year, he said: “I actually want [Birmingham City] to come up, I’m not even lying.
“I want the local teams, I want West Brom as well in the Premier League, get the derby games in. I want them in the Premier League, and I want them to suffer.”
Those meetings would add a lot of entertainment to the top flight, and with Wolves looking certain to be relegated to the Championship, Villa would find themselves without a direct rival in the top flight.
