West Brom look at hiring manager who could’ve replaced Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg

Shilen Patel is looking to make a swift appointment after sacking Ryan Mason this week.

West Brom lost 2-1 to Leicester City on Monday night, ensuring it would be four defeats from their last five Championship games.

Mason was sacked by West Brom hours after the loss at the King Power Stadium, having entered the game knowing that anything but a win would likely see him axed from The Hawthorns.

Michael Carrick is an early favourite for the West Brom job, whilst Ralph Hasenhuttl has also been linked with Albion, as Patel appears set on finding Mason’s successor quickly in order to give themselves the best possible chance of making a big push for the play-offs in the second half of the season.

Eric Ramsay was also tipped for Strasbourg job

However, it’s neither of those two names that have been most recently tipped to potentially take charge of West Brom.

As per talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook via his X account, Albion have set their sights across the pond to the MLS, with Minnesota United boss Eric Ramsay in their crosshairs.

Crook states that Ramsay is a “strong contender” to replace Mason at The Hawthorns, and he was even in play to take over from new Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg, with the French side ultimately opting for Gary O’Neil instead.

Who is Eric Ramsay and would he be a good fit for West Brom?

At 33, Ramsay would become the Championship’s second-youngest head coach behind Southampton’s Tonda Eckert (32) if he was to be appointed as West Brom’s new manager.

The Welshman began his coaching career in Swansea City’s academy in 2013, before moving on to Shrewsbury Town as academy manager in 2017.

He even spent time as Town’s assistant manager between 2018-2019, before joining Chelsea as their Under-23s manager in 2019, where he would remain until 2021 when he would leave for an assistant first-team coaching role with Manchester United.

Ramsay was then Rob Page’s assistant manager for the Wales national team for a handful of games in 2023, before he took his first steps into full-time management at senior club level with Minnesota United in March 2024.

His Minnesota side are extremely good from set-piece situations, with 24 of their 61 goals in MLS last season coming from them.

That is something Albion fans could become accustomed to at The Hawthorns very soon indeed.
