West Brom now on verge of completing new manager hire after Ryan Mason sack
West Brom’s successor for Ryan Mason looks to be Minnesota United’s head coach, Eric Ramsay.
Shilen Patel decided to axe Mason following Albion’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City in the Championship on Monday, as fans had lost hope in the former Tottenham man weeks before the call was made.
West Brom have been linked with Michael Carrick, Carlos Corberan, and Ramsay, with the ex-Manchester United coach now looking likely to take over at The Hawthorns.
Alex Crook confirms Eric Ramsay to West Brom is on
Mason’s sacking at West Brom seemed inevitable, with Albion being slowly dragged towards the relegation zone over the course of the season.
Patel was trying to do the right thing by bringing the 34-year-old to the club, but he now has the opportunity for a second bite of the apple in the form of Ramsay.
According to Alex Crook on Thursday, West Brom are now closing in on the appointment of Ramsay.
It’s not yet known how long the Welshman’s contract will be at Albion or when his first game in charge will be, but it will most likely be against Middlesbrough on 16 January.
West Brom fans will be looking forward to a new man other than Mason in the dugout, but when looking at Ramsay’s record with Minnesota in isolation, it may intrigue.
Ramsay’s interesting record with Minnesota United
The MLS is a completely different league from what the Championship is, and Ramsay will need to adapt fast.
But as seen in recent times, clubs in England are beginning to pick off the biggest talents from America, and that includes managers, too.
- Ramsay managed 81 games for Minnesota United
- He won 38 games and lost 27 in charge
- That’s a 47% win percentage
Although Ramsay didn’t lead Minnesota to great success, he always had the side on the cusp of winning silverware.
The 33-year-old has had positive experiences with the likes of Man United, Chelsea, and Swansea City in various coaching roles, as he now has his biggest test yet in leading West Brom.
