West Brom told what to expect already from Eric Ramsay as talks begin

Eric Ramsay remains the favourite to take over as West Brom manager.

Ryan Mason was finally sacked by West Brom after a late defeat against Leicester City put the final nail in his coffin at The Hawthorns.

Several options have emerged as targets already, with Michael Carrick strongly linked to West Brom as a potential successor to Mason.

The ex-Middlesbrough boss has recently taken a back seat in the odds, and Ramsay is leading the running to become West Brom boss and is reportedly in talks over the role.

Ramsay is currently at Minnesota and has a largely positive record in MLS, with the Baggies now learning insight into the 33-year-old.

Eric Ramsay insight emerges from Minnesota United

West Brom fans aren’t totally sold on Ramsay as a potential manager option, largely due to his inexperience.

Andrew Nestor went down that route with Mason’s appointment, as he was afforded his first opportunity to be a full-time head coach in B71.

That clearly didn’t pay off, and after less than six months, he was fairly handed his marching orders, much to the delight of supporters.

The Baggies faithful’s hope for the future has taken a blow with increasingly strong links to Ramsay, but it is clear just how highly rated he is in America.

Minnesota United writer Tyler735 has provided a much-needed insight into the Welshman, giving the head coach a glowing review on X.

He said: “I think he’s going to have a long, successful managerial career. He used unique tactics with Minnesota United that got results and probably had us ‘punching above our weight’ to a degree. I think his tactics were mainly a product of circumstance and believe he can adapt to other playstyles.

[He utilises a] Compact low block with quick counterattack transitions and minimal possession. Thrives on set pieces. Ran variations of 5-4-1 and 5-3-2 type setups. Very athletic Strikers and Wingbacks to capitalise on those counterattacks. I think with a different squad, he can adapt his tactics.

Minnesota fans gutted by Ramsay to West Brom links

Sometimes, even when sceptical about a player or manager, you only have to look at the side they leave and the opinion of their supporters.

The Hawthorns faithful aren’t too keen on Ramsay, but supporters at Allianz Field are largely disappointed at the prospect of losing the ex-Manchester United coach.

One fan simply replied, “Uh oh…” to the Baggies links, while another echoed that by posting: “Ughhh.”

Another put aside their feelings of frustration to show exactly what sort of manager West Brom could potentially have on their hands.

They said: “The team’s spending is in the bottom third of the league, but since Ramsay’s arrival, the team has had its best point haul this season and the third best the season before. He is detail-oriented and a great communicator.

There is fear in the Black County that his inexperience could prove to be a problem, but for now, the Albion faithful have to look at the positives, and there seem to be plenty of them.
