Grady Diangana may have contributed to Carlos Corberan sack as ex-West Brom duo collide again
Grady Diangana and Carlos Corberan spent two years together at West Brom, but they are now battling it out over in Spain.
Corberan left West Brom to take over at Valencia back in December 2024, with many Baggies fans disappointed at his decision to leave.
The Spanish side were in the relegation places when the 42-year-old arrived, but he managed to guide them to a 12th-place finish by the end of last season.
However, it has been a completely different story for Corberan this term, and his future at Valencia is now in increasing doubt.
Grady Diangana comes back to haunt Carlos Corberan
Diangana left West Brom in the summer after his contract expired at The Hawthorns, eventually joining La Liga side Elche on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old scored his first goal for the Spanish club on Saturday, ironically away at Corberan’s Valencia, coming off the bench to put Elche ahead.
Just one minute after his introduction, Diangana cut in on his left foot and curled a beautiful strike into the far corner from the edge of the area.
The former Baggies midfielder did give away a late penalty just 10 minutes later, though, which was converted by Pepelu, snatching a draw for the hosts.
Despite the late equaliser, Valencia remain in the La Liga relegation zone, and Corberan is in all kinds of trouble.
Carlos Corberan under immense sack pressure
Corberan is in real sack danger at Valencia, with large portions of the fanbase firmly against the Spaniard.
After a relatively successful first season in charge, the former West Brom boss has only guided his side to three league wins this season, and they have picked up just 17 points from 19 games.
Valencia has only managed one victory in their last 14 matches, and Corberan was booed and urged to resign by supporters after a recent 4-1 defeat to Celta Vigo.
The Spanish side have only been relegated from La Liga once since 1930, back in 1986, but they bounced straight back up to the top-flight the following year.
If Corberan doesn’t turn the situation around quickly, then Valencia will be forced to make a change in the dugout to avoid the drop.
Diangana certainly didn’t help out his former boss.
