West Brom fans already in love with Eric Ramsay after first public address – ‘We’re winning the lot’
Eric Ramsay has been speaking his first words as West Brom’s new head coach.
Ramsay was appointed West Brom boss on Sunday, following Ryan Mason’s sacking after Albion’s defeat to Leicester City last Monday.
Dennis Lawrence has been appointed as assistant manager, who was with Ramsay in the same role at Minnesota United.
The new West Brom coaching staff don’t appear to be wasting any time on the transfer front either, as Ramsay is reportedly keen to reunite with Nectarios Triantis.
West Brom fans loving Eric Ramsay’s first Albion words
Speaking directly to the West Brom fans in a video posted to Albion’s X account on Monday evening, Ramsay said: “Hi Baggies fans. This is just a message to say what a privilege it is to be at the front of your club.
“And I, with my staff, will do absolutely everything to make sure that we build some momentum and start helping move this club forward.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing you on Friday night, and we hope to be able to produce something that you can all be proud of.”
Judging from the responses of many West Brom supporters, the majority of them have instantly fallen in love with their new head coach.
“This guys got aura,” wrote one Baggies fan, whilst another said: “We’re going up.”
Why Middlesbrough match is win-win for Ramsey in West Brom bow
West Brom’s first game of the Ramsay era will take place on Friday night, as Albion welcome second-placed Middlesbrough to The Hawthorns.
With it being the only game that night, Ramsay’s first West Brom rodeo will have the Sky Sports cameras in attendance, in what will no doubt be a tough test against the automatic promotion hopefuls.
But, whilst some will may feel as though Ramsay will have hoped for a far easier game on paper to begin his Baggies tenure, taking on Kim Hellberg’s Boro is somewhat of a win-win for the new boss.
- Middlesbrough have won five, drawn four and lost four on the road this season
- West Brom have won 22 of their 31 points at home
- Boro have won the last four meetings against Albion
If West Brom are able to defeat Middlesbrough, then Ramsay will instantly win the affection of any Albion supporters still keeping their distance, and if they lose – so long as it’s not in embarrassing fashion – then he will be handed a free pass, given it’s his first game and it’s against one of the Championship’s strongest teams.
So, there should be a real element of fearlessness for Ramsay and his side on Friday, as he looks to get his mark the start of his West Brom career with three points.
