Exclusive: Eric Ramsay may not get any money to spend on January transfers at West Brom
West Brom have started their latest journey under the management of Eric Ramsay.
Ryan Mason was sacked after the 2-1 defeat against Leicester, with Ramsay’s appointment confirmed at The Hawthorns days later.
Ramsay will lead West Brom for the first time versus Middlesbrough on Friday, with an urgent need for points in the Championship.
The Baggies are currently 18th, and are closer to relegation than the play-offs.
Will West Brom spend on transfers for Eric Ramsay?
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Dan Plumley believes it is still unlikely that the Baggies will spend big in January for their new manager.
“I think that’s always the narrative,” the football finance expert said.
“With West Brom, it’s tricky when you look at those numbers and the owners themselves came out pre-Christmas and put out warning signs that there may not be a lot of money to spend in January.

“It’s not like they can just open the chequebook, we know the financial situation they’ve inherited, they lost around £37m in 23/24, so they’ve got to be mindful of Championship PSR.
“So, it doesn’t seem likely to me that they will spend big.”
Eric Ramsay assurances at West Brom
Plumley went on to admit that those hefty losses will fall off the chart at the end of this season, which is why a summer spend is much more likely.
“Of course, the new manager will have expectations and may be looking more towards the summer because that £37m loss will drop off the equation, and it frees up a little bit of space,” he added.
“If there are assurances that the manager will get money to spend or bring players in, I think it’s probably going to be further down the line, and he may have to do a containment job for the rest of the season.”
Nectarios Triantis has been backed to follow Ramsay to West Brom from Minnesota United, but that may just need to be put on hold for now.
With promotion looking very unlikely, it remains hard to imagine relegation being possible either.
So, do West Brom save their money and go all out next season? Or will Ramsay have demanded immediate backing? Time will tell.
