Isaac Price magical, Eric Ramsay gamble fails – West Brom player ratings vs Middlesbrough
West Brom hearts were broken at the death as Middlesbrough beat them 3-2 on Friday evening.
Eric Ramsay took charge of his first match as West Brom boss, but it appeared that he could not change the side’s fortunes.
The Hawthorns‘ faithful saw glimpses of Ramsay’s philosophy after a positive start, but a Charlie Taylor own goal and a Samuel Silvera strike saw the Baggies vanquished.
Isaac Price pulled one back with a stunning free-kick, and Jed Wallace equalised proceedings with 10 minutes to play, but Delano Burgzorg had the final say.
Isaac Price produces moment of magic for West Brom
Price was one of West Brom’s star players at the start of the campaign, but he had gone off the boil in recent months.
He had not scored in the Baggies’ last 17 matches, but he made his impression on his new manager with a beautiful effort from just outside the box.
The 22-year-old had little effect on the contest apart from his strike, but ultimately, that is what got the hosts back into the game.
Price’s passing was on point, as he recorded a 90 per cent accuracy, but he never created a single chance for his teammates, per Sofascore.
He had three shots, with only on target for a 33 per cent success rate, and took just one touch in the opposition box.
However, his goal was the moment that sparked the Albion comeback, and that trumps anything else.
Mikey Johnston has a miserable night in West Brom loss
Mikey Johnston has took on the creative burden from Price, recording nine assists this season for the Baggies.
However, Ramsay decided to play him as a right-wing back, having had success doing that previously in Major League Soccer.
However, the Northern Irishman created no chances, and recorded just one shot which was blocked in the contest.
While he did make four passes into the final third, he failed with all seven crosses that he attempted in a miserable evening for the 26-year-old
Ramsay will have surely learnt his lesson and end the experiment as soon as possible, as it clearly did not work out.
