Eric Ramsay surely set to sack off first West Brom player as transfer rumours intensify

Eric Ramsay’s task of rebuilding West Brom is huge.

Ramsay was hired as West Brom’s new manager on 11 January, and his first Baggies match ended in heartbreaking fashion.

West Brom lost 3-2 to Middlesbrough at The Hawthorns on Friday, with Delano Burgzorg netting the winner in the 90th minute.

The Baggies haven’t signed anyone yet in the January transfer window, but Ramsay is already eyeing up a new goalkeeper.

West Brom’s interest in Sebastian Jurado isn’t a good sign for Joe Wildsmith future

Having made seven Championship appearances this season, Joe Wildsmith’s West Brom career certainly hasn’t been filled with promise.

Fox Sports reported on Friday that the Baggies were interested in FC Juarez goalkeeper Sebastian Jurado.

Jurado’s representatives have dismissed the West Brom links, although the Baggies are keeping him under close watch as they aim to improve their goalkeeping situation.

Wildsmith started a spell of games under Ryan Mason after Josh Griffiths continued to make big mistakes, although the deputy failed to capitalise on the opportunity.

The 30-year-old could be on his way out if the Baggies manage to sign Jurado, and Ramsay will ultimately have the final say on his future.

What’s frustrating for him is that Griffiths hasn’t looked convincing at all, and it’s no shock that the new manager is targeting a first-choice goalkeeper in the window.

Wildsmith only has himself to blame, and he can never be trusted to play consistently at this level.

Josh Griffiths deserves to be axed from the starting lineup

The decision to drop Griffiths for Wildsmith on 6 December massively backfired on Mason, and it definitely played a huge part in his sacking.

The issue for Mason is that he didn’t have a capable number two because Griffiths’ performances were far from good enough.

He made a high-profile mistake against Swansea City on 29 November, and even since returning to the team, he has failed to instil much confidence in his defence.

Although Ramsay didn’t get off to the best start, it’s an encouraging sign that he is prepared to be ruthless and completely change the goalkeeping pecking order.

If the Baggies can secure Jurado’s services, then Wildsmith will likely leave, and Griffiths will undoubtedly be resigned to the bench yet again.
