West Brom relegation incoming after hugely concerning Eric Ramsay admission
West Brom’s 2025-26 season sank to a new low on Tuesday night.
Norwich City ran out 5-0 winners over West Brom at The Hawthorns, in what is Albion’s heaviest defeat of the season so far.
It also means it’s two losses from Eric Ramsay‘s first two games in charge, with West Brom having lost 3-2 to Middlesbrough last Friday.
There were very few West Brom players who could hold their heads high after the full-time whistle blew against the Canaries, but Isaac Price has come in for particularly strong criticism for his performance.
Eric Ramsay makes alarming West Brom claim after Norwich disaster
Upon his announcement and after speaking his first words as West Brom boss, Baggies fans appeared to have instantly fallen in love with Ramsay.
And despite losing the game against Middlesbrough, there were positives to take from it, as they were able to show fight and belief to come from 2-0 down to get it back to 2-2 in the second half.
However, they were unable to see the game out, and their leaky defence once again let them down as Boro wrestled back the points in the final minutes of the game.
But there would’ve been a lot of Albion supporters coming away from that match thinking, ‘that was a better showing’ and ‘we’ve got something in Ramsay’.
Those feelings may no longer be felt after Tuesday night, though, as Ramsay’s side were totally dismantled on home soil by a Norwich team that were sitting 22nd at the start of the night.
And, speaking in a post-match interview with BBC journalist and commentator Steve Hermon, as quoted via his X account, Ramsay sent a worrying message about the state of his team.
“It was very clear tonight that players didn’t demonstrate that sense of confidence and assuredness that I would’ve expected given the work that we have done and then that is for me to go back to the drawing board,” he said.

Ramsay forecasts ‘telling’ final days of January transfer window
Evidently, this is a West Brom squad that is severely lacking in quality and depth in certain areas of the pitch.
So, not only is it the case when any new manager arrives that they want to put their own stamp on the team, but for Ramsay, this looks a necessity this month if Albion are to avoid playing League One football next season.
However, Ramsay has already been told he may not have any money to spend this month, but speaking in that same interview with Hermon, he’s made it clear that some signings must be made.

“I think the coming 10 days or so will be telling in that sense and will be important,” Ramsay said.
“I was aware coming into the situation that it wasn’t an easy window, and there is work going on behind the scenes, undoubtedly, that will hopefully, come the end of the window, put us in a better place.
“But, that’s obviously working within the constraints that I was well aware of coming here.”
Every supporter will have their fingers crossed that is the case, but Ramsay’s admission that his side cannot play his way is hugely worrying.
And as we’ve seen in high-profile examples elsewhere of late, namely Wilfried Nancy at Celtic, the outcome can be disastrous if persisted with.
