West Brom announce another exit as centre-back joins promotion-chasing side
West Brom are heading into a vital final week or so of the winter transfer window.
Eric Ramsay knows he may not have much money to spend on new signings ahead of the 2 February deadline, but his West Brom side is in dire need of improvement one way or another.
West Brom were able to sign Max O’Leary from Bristol City on a permanent basis this week, with the goalkeeper becoming Ramsay‘s first signing as Albion head coach.
However, O’Leary endured a nightmare debut against Derby on Friday night, as the 29-year-old was at fault for the Rams’ goal in the 1-1 draw after dropping the ball following a cross into the box, allowing Patrick Agyemang to fire into an empty net.

West Brom sanction move for Jamal Mohammed
Earlier this week, West Brom midfielder Cole Deeming joined Chesterfield on loan, as Albion look to find some fruitful opportunities for some of their bright young talents.
And given West Brom’s financial position, as Shilen Patel braces for more losses ahead of Albion’s 2024-25 finances being published, whoever is in charge of the first-team over the next few years may have to lean more and more on the academy.
Therefore, it’s important that Baggies decision-makers find good and beneficial moves for any young player being sent out on loan, as they could find greater opportunities to be fast-tracked to the first-team soon.
That will surely be the case even more so if West Brom get relegated to League One, as financial losses on top of a relegation may cripple Albion’s coffers severely, and thus more young players could be needed.
So for that reason, many supporters and those in positions of power at The Hawthorns will be monitoring the progress of their players out on loan very closely over the second half of the season.
And, confirmed by West Brom’s official club website on Saturday, Jamal Mohammed has joined Southern League Premier Division South outfit Gloucester City on a one-month loan deal.
Mohammed can help Gloucester massively in promotion push
A 19-year-old centre-back, Mohammed has been with West Brom since the age of 15, and has progressed through Albion’s academy system from Under-18 to Under-21 level.
He’s been a regular fixture for the 21s so far this season, and also made the bench for West Brom’s Championship games against Hull and Burnley in 2024-25.
As such, he’s obviously a player many around West Brom rate highly, and he’s joining a club in Gloucester City where he can potentially make a big impact to their promotion hopes.
Gloucester City currently sit third in the Southern League Premier Division South (seventh tier) table, and are looking good value to seal a play-off finish at this stage.
