West Brom could finally seal Lewis Koumas signing after late Liverpool transfer developments
Lewis Koumas could be finally set to make his West Brom connection concrete.
Koumas is the son of West Brom hero Jason Koumas, who played over 140 times for Albion between 2002-2007.
Indeed, he’s also a player that has been on West Brom’s transfer radar for some time, with Albion reportedly interested in signing Koumas in January 2025.
At the time, the 20-year-old winger was on a season-long loan with Stoke City from Liverpool, but he was in and out of the Potters’ side.
However, West Brom were unable to hijack a deal for him at the time, with Koumas remaining with Stoke for the duration of the 2024-25 season, where he scored six times and provided three assists in 49 total appearances.

West Brom could finally get Lewis Koumas wish
It’s been a quite winter window so far at The Hawthorns, with West Brom’s signing of Max O’Leary being the only incoming piece of business at this stage.
However, they could be in for a busy final week of the window though, with West Brom reportedly interested in Lazio’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Aston Villa forward Louie Barry has also been linked with West Brom, as Shilen Patel looks to give new boss Eric Ramsay a couple of new additions to bolster his team’s chances of Championship survival.
Koumas could now be back on Albion’s transfer agenda once again for a second winter running, as it was confirmed by Birmingham City on Monday that he’s been recalled to parent club Liverpool.
The Wales international had started just seven times for Blues in the second tier this term, culminating in 747 minutes of football and one goal to show for his time at St Andrew’s.
However, because he’s not made a competitive appearance for Liverpool in 2025-26, Koumas is able to transfer to another club and play for them in the remainder of the season.
And, according to a post from The Athletic’s Liverpool reporter James Pearce via X, he reports that Koumas is indeed likely to be sent back out on loan before the 2 February deadline.
It’s stated that other second tier sides are circling for his signature, and it remains to be seen whether West Brom are one of them.
West Brom should rule with head over heart when it comes to Koumas
Whenever there’s a case of a player’s surname holding considerable weight with a specific fanbase due to the exploits of another family member, it can be very easy to blindly wish for them to sign.
And so, undoubtedly, there will be many a Baggie that would love to see the name Koumas branded on the back of a West Brom shirt once again, given how well-loved Jason is from his time at The Hawthorns.
However, Jason proved himself to be a consistent and reliable performer in an Albion shirt, whereas his son Lewis is yet to prove he can do it on a regular basis at Championship level in his young career.
Just three second tier goals in 43 games for Stoke, and just the one in 23 for Birmingham this season, he just may not quite be up to this level of football at this stage of his development.
And, with West Brom needing quality and impact-makers right now, there is little evidence to suggest Koumas could come in and alter the trajectory of Albion’s campaign.
Therefore, West Brom may be better served going with their head over their heart on this one, as a better and more proven winger could be available for them before the deadline.
