West Brom could sign the next Jamie Vardy in deadline-busting transfer

West Brom could be set to bolster their attacking options before the transfer deadline.

Eric Ramsay has West Brom on course for relegation, though it is perhaps unfair to tag his name alongside that downfall.

Decisions from those at the top of the food chain at The Hawthorns are the ones to blame for the failure of the current campaign, and unless the right decisions are made in the final few days of the transfer window, relegation is almost certain.

One of the decisions needed at West Brom concerns recruitment, with the arrival of someone capable of scoring goals certainly needed.

And after the latest update, that may be on the cards.

West Brom position in Championship table

West Brom mooted as landing spot for Premier League attacker

To find a positive at West Brom, you’d be there for a while. However, there are certainly plenty of negatives, one of which concerns Ramsay’s attacking options.

Albion have looked toothless in front of goal on far too many occasions this season, with Josh Maja, Aune Heggebo and Daryl Dike having found the net just nine times between them this season. And Heggebo has eight of them.

Adding players who are able to ctronbite in that area of the pitch is going to be crucial this week for the Baggies, and with Louie Barry mooted for a move to The Hawthorns, he could be the perfect remedy.

Barry struggled at Sheffield United, but with freedom to roam at West Brom, he could thrive.

Typically, he has played as a winger, but Barry himself has likened his own play style to one of the Premier League’s greats, Jamie Vardy.

Via Sky Sports in 2023, he said: “I actually think I’m a bit more like Vardy. I play in a similar way to him, with his movement, being a bit of a nuisance. That’s what I built my game around when I was younger.

“He had an underdog story that I really like.”

Louie Barry arrival could force Eric Ramsay into a much-needed change

West Brom have typically played with a lone striker this season, and as the league table suggests, it hasn’t really worked.

Barry‘s arrival would give Ramsay the option to change that, with his pace and directness likely to be the perfect complement to someone like Heggebo.

The latter has been isolated up top for most of the season, and having someone to play off him could be what Albion need to start finding the net regularly.

West Brom have scored just 32 goals in 29 games this season, which is the fifth-worst attacking record in the Championship, showcasing just how much room for improvement there is in that aspect.
