Karlan Grant may have played his last game for West Brom after ‘significant blow’

West Brom star Karlan Grant is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Grant went off injured in West Brom’s defeat to Derby with a hamstring injury, as the Baggies ended up securing a 1-1 draw.

Eric Ramsay‘s side will be without Grant for the foreseeable future, reducing the options available for the remainder of the campaign.

It may have been his last game for the club, as the extent of the problem has now been revealed.

Why might Grant have played his last game for West Brom?

Grant is under contract with West Brom until the summer, then he would be a free agent unless he signs a new deal.

Albion confirmed on 29 January that the player will be out for up to three months with the issue and will undergo surgery, which could mean that he has played his final game for The Hawthorns club.

Express and Star journalist Lewis Cox labelled the announcement as a “significant blow” for the Black Country side.

Ramsay may well decide that he has not seen enough to give the 28-year-old a new contract, and if he has any setbacks in his recovery, it could be curtains for his Baggies career.

Could Grant really not play for West Brom again?

Albion’s last game of the campaign is the trip to Sheffield Wednesday on 2 May, provided that they do not make the playoffs.

That seems unlikely given that they are 20th in the Championship, that seems like an unlikely prospect right now.

If Grant’s injury takes the full three months to heal, that would mean that he could potentially be back by the 29th April, and play against the Owls.

However, injury recoveries often do not go as planned, so he may never put on the blue and whites stripes ever again, if it does not go perfectly and he suffers any kind of setback in his recovery.

Obviously, Ramsay may decide that he has seen enough from the former Huddersfield Town player in his three games as boss and offer him a new deal, but it remains to be seen.

It will be a nervous wait for supporters and Grant to see if that happens or not, or whether he will have to find a new club over the summer months.
