West Brom in Crystal Palace talks over deadline-beating transfer for Eric Ramsay

Eric Ramsay is hoping to make some last-minute signings to bolster his West Brom options, with talks now underway to sign a player from Crystal Palace.

Ahead of the 2 February deadline, Max O’Leary is currently West Brom’s only signing of the winter window so far.

However, many West Brom supporters feel more is needed, and Baggies fans have been told to expect a couple more signings before the window shuts.

West Brom don’t appear to be signing Joseph Rosales, though, after reports from his home country of Honduras have denied suggestions that talks have been underway for a deal.

West Brom close in on Crystal Palace defender Danny Imray

Ramsay will undoubtedly have his own thoughts and beliefs on where his West Brom side need to improve going forward.

However, with Monday’s transfer deadline moving closer, he doesn’t have the luxury of time to make major sweeping changes at The Hawthorns.

That will have to wait until the summer window, but in the final days of these winter sales, Ramsay must identify the one or two positions that he feels can’t wait until the end of the season to be reinforced.

And in a report on Thursday, it’s been suggested that Ramsay is prioritising the signing of a right wing-back, as it’s currently only Alfie Gilchrist who would be comfortable in that role, but even he is a full-back by trade.

However, he appears to have found his man, as it’s been reported by Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath via X on Thursday that West Brom are in talks with Crystal Palace over a loan move for Danny Imray.

Who is Danny Imray?

Signed by Crystal Palace in February 2021, Imray was plucked by the Eagles from non-league side Chelmsford City and moved into Palace’s academy system.

He would return to Chelmsford on loan in January 2022, before spending a couple more years developing in Palace’s academy before once again going out on loan to League Two outfit Bromley for the 2024-25 season.

There, Imray registered six assists and two goals in 42 appearances, which helped earn him a loan move to League One side Blackpool for the first half of this season.

However, he was recalled to Selhurst Park on 16 January having made 16 appearances for the Tangerines, scoring twice and registering two assists.

Evidently, Palace believe the 22-year-old is good enough to be fast-tracked up the EFL pyramid and into the Championship, and West Brom look set to be the latest side to land his loan signature.
