West Brom star must now step up after worrying Karlan Grant update

Karlan Grant has been one of West Brom’s most consistent starters this season.

The winger is seemingly one of the first choices in the starting lineup, being selected 17 times from 23 games when fit, and Grant has performed at times when his teammates have not.

However, at the weekend, Grant was forced off with an injury, with Eric Ramsay unaware of the extent of the damage.

Losing the player for a long period of time would not be ideal, and the Baggies have now issued an update that could have ramifications for others in the squad.

West Brom issue worrying Karlan Grant injury update

Ramsay’s start to life at West Brom has not gone well, with the Baggies yet to win a game under his tenure.

The new head coach sustained multiple injuries versus Derby County, including one to Grant. The wide midfielder was forced off after just eight minutes, and he will now be out for some time.

So far, he has overseen two losses and a draw from three games in charge, and without Grant, it could be harder to fork out results.

Ramsay’s worst fears have now been realised, as West Brom have confirmed Grant has picked up a hamstring injury, and that will see him sit out for around three months.

It is certainly not ideal for both Grant and Ramsay. Although the latter may receive some good news soon, as Danny Imray undergoes his medical at The Hawthorns.

Samuel Iling Jr must now take West Brom chance

With Grant out injured, if West Brom are not to use the transfer market to address the issue, then it opens the door for fringe players to make an impression.

At the weekend, it was Samuel Iling Jr who was selected to take Grant’s place on the pitch, and that could see his minutes increase in the immediate future.

The Aston Villa loanee has not truly impressed so far, only starting sporadically under previous manager, Ryan Mason.

Iling Jr has been slammed for his performances this season for West Brom.

But while he will feel for his teammate, he could also see this as an opportunity to prove himself.

Although he is typically a right-sided player, it could see the Englishman played out on the left, with Mikey Johnston retaining his place out on the right.

Additionally, Ramsay could simply opt to swap the pair. Johnston has been performing well this season with two goals and nine assists.
