‘FA to charge Portsmouth’ after two ‘cowardly’ incidents in the stands vs West Brom
Portsmouth face being charged by the FA after two separate incidents in the stands at Fratton Park against West Brom on Saturday.
Pressure is beginning to mount on Eric Ramsay after the Baggies lost 3-0 to their Championship relegation rivals, who moved above them in the table.
The Albion boss is now without a win in his first four games in charge of the Black Country club, and things look like they’re going from bad to worse under his management.
West Brom are now tasked with a relegation fight, as Shilen Patel may have to push financial limits to land some more signings before the transfer market’s deadline on Monday.
However, the Baggies are not the only team in trouble, with Portsmouth now facing the possibility of an investigation from the FA.

Keith Hackett says Portsmouth will face FA fine for two incidents from stands
Portsmouth could now face financial repercussions, with footballing authorities set to investigate two incidents where objects were thrown from fans.
The fourth official from the match, Alex Chilowicz, was struck by an object, which halted the game in the second half. However, he was not the only person hit by a projectile thrown by Portsmouth fans.
- West Brom legend Jeff Astle’s 10-year-old great-grandson was also hit by 50p coin, according to Dawn Astle
- Fratton Park’s PA system sent a warning to fans after the incidents, but it may not be enough for Portsmouth to avoid punishment
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, former PGMOL chief, Keith Hackett, explained why Pompey could and should face a fine from the FA, with potential lifetime bans for the culprits.
Hackett said: “The throwing of objects at a football match is cowardice at the extreme. Whatever the object is, it endangers fans, players, coaches and match officials. Portsmouth will no doubt be charged by the authorities.
“Hopefully, Portsmouth will have video evidence from the surveillance cameras that are in operation by security. Referee Matt Donohue will, in his post-match report, add these incidents, and The FA will take action.”
“I would hope that true fans will help Portsmouth in a quest to identify the culprits. The club will face a fine, and frankly, any other future incidents will result in a harsh punishment of a stand or ground closure.
“Let’s hope that the idiots who threw these objects are caught and served with a lifetime ban from football. Football does not want this type of behaviour.”
West Brom can’t get distracted from these worry statistics
Ramsay could very well be sacked a lot earlier than most people imagine, but if Shilen Patel stays patient as he did with Ryan Mason, then the former Minnesota United boss could be safe for some time yet.
But that’s a huge problem for the Baggies, because apart from a 10-minute spell against Middlesbrough, and a last-gasp header from Chris Mepham versus Derby County, there hasn’t been much for fans to cheer about.
| Games | 4 |
| Shots on target | 13 |
| Goals | 3 |
| Expected goals | 3.45 |
The only moments where the Baggies have shown promise going forward under Ramsay have pretty much been from individual moments of brilliance.
The stats show that West Brom aren’t gelling in the final third right now, and to make matters worse, the readings are even worse from the defensive side of things.
Twelve goals conceded, and only three scored at the other end, simply isn’t good enough. Ramsay has to figure it out sooner rather than later.
