Shilen Patel readies replacement already as Andrew Nestor quits after West Brom bombshell
West Brom’s season is in a state of disarray both on and off the pitch.
Ryan Mason was appointed as West Brom’s new boss last summer, but he was sacked following a bad run of form in January.
Eric Ramsay replaced the former Tottenham interim coach but in his four games in charge at The Hawthorns, the 34-year-old has overseen one draw and three losses.
Ramsay is already under pressure, three weeks after being appointed, as the Baggies are languishing down in 21st in the Championship.
Now, after West Brom’s 3-0 loss to relegation rivals Portsmouth on Saturday, a huge development has emerged among Baggies figureheads.
Shilen Patel to move quick for Andrew Nestor replacement
With West Brom sitting just three points above the relegation zone, despite having one of the bigger budgets in the Championship, there has reportedly been a big change in the club’s boardroom.
According to Telegraph journalist John Percy, West Brom president Andrew Nestor was considering his future amid the Baggies’ poor season.
Now, West Brom Xtra, and others, have reported that Nestor has left the club and majority shareholder and chairman Shilen Patel is eyeing an immediate replacement.
Nestor was only appointed as club president in mid-September 2025, so things have unravelled quite quickly for the sporting director.
Prior to becoming West Brom’s sporting director in the summer of 2024, Nestor had served as president at the Tampa Bay Rowdies, an American football (or soccer) team in Florida, and he was a “key player” in the takeover of Italian side Bologna – where he served as director for two years.
Less than five months ago, chairman Patel said he was “more excited by the future than ever” following Nestor’s appointment.
Now, all of that has come crashing down as West Brom face the very real threat of relegation to League One this year.
Eric Ramsay pressure could grow deeper
Things looked like they couldn’t get much worse when West Brom were thumped 5-0 by Norwich City on 20 January, as boos rang around The Hawthorns.
They were able to earn a creditable 1-1 draw against Derby County a few days later, suggesting there was signs of life in the team.
But they were given another brutal reality check on Saturday as lowly Portsmouth thumped them 3-0 at Fratton Park – a result that saw Pompey leapfrog them in the table.

Ramsay is in desperate need of a first victory and if their winless run continues, he may not last the season.
Next up, they host mid-table Stoke City. If they fail to pick up three points in that match, fans may be mutinous.
