West Brom on verge of hiring new coach amid horror start for Eric Ramsay

The appointment of Eric Ramsay has ultimately been a terrible decision by West Brom so far.

The former Minnesota United head coach has failed to hit the ground running, with the Baggies still winless since his arrival.

West Brom’s poor run of form continued against Portsmouth on Saturday, as Ramsay‘s side endured a 3-0 loss, his third defeat in four games – the other game in that sequence being a draw.

Tensions boiled over with West Brom fans amid an Isaac Price confrontation, and the mood at The Hawthorns is expectedly quite low.

However, it looks like in an attempt to turn things around, there may be a new addition to Ramsay’s coaching staff arriving.

Andy Morrison in line to join Eric Ramsay’s West Brom staff

Ramsay’s backroom staff could have a new appointment in the very near future.

The English head coach is struggling to impress in the dugout, and he will be looking for ways to turn things around and ensure his future remains at The Hawthorns.

It now looks like one way of attempting to do so is by adding new members to his coaching staff.

According to respected West Brom fan account EyaWeGew via X on Sunday, Andy Morrison “looks like he may be joining soon”.

EyaWeGew had previously reported that the club had wanted to bring Morrison into the fold earlier in Ramsay’s appointment.

Who is Andy Morrison?

There will not be many fans that will get excited about the prospect of Morrison joining Ramsay’s backroom team, as his previous work does not exactly paint an inspiring picture.

The former Scottish footballer has mainly worked in non-league and semi-professional football but over the last decade has begun taking professional jobs.

Most recently, he was the Sri Lankan national team’s head coach between 2022 and 2024, and before that, he managed professional Welsh side Connah’s Quay Nomads.

With The Nomads he won two Cymru Premier titles, one Welsh Cup and one Welsh League Cup.

West Brom are currently facing a potential relegation to League One, and an inexperienced coach in the higher levels of English football, on paper, does not seem like the right move.

However, we may end up being pleasantly surprised by the appointment, and perhaps his experience of being a Premier League defender for Blackburn and Manchester City can lend some valuable insight for the squad.

If it does not go well, it will be another decision closely scrutinised by the Baggies fanbase.
