Championship promotion-winner installed as favourite to replace Eric Ramsay as West Brom manager
Russell Martin is the favourite to replace Eric Ramsay at West Brom.
West Brom suffered an embarrassing 5-0 loss to Norwich City at The Hawthorns on 20 January in what was the first sign that Ramsay could be out of his depth.
Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Portsmouth was brutal, and after just four games in charge, he is winless and already at risk of being sacked.
Several managers have already been linked with the Baggies, but Martin is the candidate who has emerged as the frontrunner.

Russell Martin is currently the favourite for the West Brom job
Martin was linked with the West Brom job after Ryan Mason was sacked on 6 January.
However, Shilen Patel opted to hire Ramsay, who was impressive while managing Minnesota United in the MLS.
Martin showed signs of promise at Swansea prior to joining Southampton, and a Championship return is now certainly on the cards for the 40-year-old head coach.
Martin led the Saints to promotion from the Championship in 2023-24 by beating Leeds 1-0 in the playoff final.

After being sacked by Southampton in December 2024, he later became the manager of Rangers at the start of this season.
He went on to become the worst manager in the club’s history and lasted just 123 days in Glasgow.
Martin is the current 4/1 favourite, while former Baggies boss Carlos Corberan is at 7/1.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is 8/1, with Lee Carsley and Michael Skubala both at 10/1.

The loss at Fratton Park was a disaster on all fronts, and the atmosphere at full-time was completely toxic.
Eric Ramsay hasn’t been helped out by Shilen Patel
The performances against Portsmouth and Norwich were completely unforgivable, and that can’t be denied.
Some of the tactics have been baffling, and Isaac Price’s angry reaction to the away fans sums up the mood around the club.
However, Patel hasn’t helped out Ramsay in the transfer market, with the Baggies intent on stabilising their financial situation.
While this is definitely smart in the long term, the Baggies simply can’t afford to drop down into League One.
Patel needs to do whatever it takes to help Ramsay build his own squad in order to ensure that they’ll be playing in the Championship next season.
The head coach needs to turn things around quickly; otherwise, the supporters will be united in wanting him sacked in the next few weeks.
