Supercomputer predicts if West Brom will match dreadful 17-year record vs Birmingham City

Eric Ramsay has had a terrible start as West Brom manager and is still looking for his first win in charge ahead of Tuesday’s clash away to Birmingham City.

The Baggies suffered an embarrassing 5-0 loss to Norwich City at The Hawthorns on 20 January and it hasn’t got much better since.

West Brom’s 3-0 defeat against Portsmouth on 31 January was also brutal, and after five games in charge, Ramsay is winless and already at risk of being sacked.

Although West Brom drew 0-0 to Stoke and showed signs of progress on Saturday, they sit just one point above the drop zone with 15 games to play.

Ramsay is starting to come under pressure at West Brom, and he faces a very tough test against a Birmingham City side that is bang in form.

Birmingham City predicted as heavy favourites to beat West Brom

Chris Davies’ side come into the match in fine form, with their last defeat in all competitions coming on 1 January.

Last time out, they beat Leicester 2-1 at St. Andrew’s courtesy of Jay Stansfield’s winning goal.

According to Opta‘s supercomputer, their winning run should extend, and West Brom will lose on the road once more.

No team has lost more away games in England’s top four tiers in the 2025-26 season than West Brom (12).

The Baggies last lost more times on the road in a league campaign back in the 2008-09 Premier League season (13).

A defeat at St. Andrew’s would not only pile more pressure on Ramsay, but it would see West Brom equal an incredibly damaging record.

It’s safe to say that West Brom are terrible away from home, but what’s even more concerning is the Blues’ impressive form in B9.

Birmingham City have a phenomenal home record

Since the start of last season, Birmingham City have suffered fewer home defeats than any other side in England’s top four tiers (one).

In addition to this, only Bradford City (27) have picked up more home wins than their 26.

Birmingham have won each of their last three home league games against West Brom. The only time they have been on a longer winning run at home versus the Baggies in the Football League was between April 1938 and April 1957, when they won six straight matches.

West Brom have only won one of their last seven league clashes away to fellow West Midlands sides, beating Coventry City 2-0 in October 2023.

The underlying stats clearly don’t make for good reading, and Ramsay faces a huge task on Tuesday.

But there should be no excuses if the Baggies fail to end Birmingham’s home form, and the head coach needs to set his team up in a way that can make the fans proud.

Otherwise, it could become extremely toxic in that away end once again.
