Eric Ramsay must roll the dice on Josh Maja and Aune Heggebo partnership

West Brom have to recapture that winning feeling in any way possible, as Eric Ramsay continues to search for his first Albion victory.

It was yet another dismal day at the office for West Brom and Ramsay on Saturday, as the Baggies paused their Championship survival bid for an FA Cup fourth round tie with Norwich City.

With Philippe Clement dealing with a vast quantity of injuries, it looked to be a prime opportunity for West Brom to progress to the fifth round at Carrow Road.

However, another lacklustre performance ensured Norwich ran out 3-1 winners in Norfolk, condemning Ramsay to his fourth defeat as Albion head coach.

Eric Ramsay should take chance on Josh Maja, Aunge Heggebo partnership

Throughout this 2025-26 season, there have been calls from some Albion supporters for Josh Maja and Aune Heggebo to play together as a strike pairing.

However, former head coach Ryan Mason showed no interest in doing that, and so far, neither has Ramsay.

But, with West Brom lacking a clear attacking invention under Ramsay and with their Championship status in major jeopardy, now is the time to throw caution to the wind.

Maja has started just six Championship games this season with one league goal to his name, but his 12 in 26 in the second tier last term prior to his injury shows he can score plenty of goals at second tier level.

And, it was he who netted Albion’s only goal of the game away at Norwich on Saturday, scoring in the 68th minute to bring the Baggies to within one goal of the Canaries, before they put the tie to bed in added time.

Maja is the kind of forward that does seem to play his best football and impact games the most when he’s linking up with teammates, and so putting Heggebo alongside him could work wonders.

West Brom have to be firing on all cylinders in the next few games

With no goals scored in any of their last three Championship games, it goes without saying but if that form continues, West Brom are going to be in deep, deep trouble.

And, they have a run of games coming up over the next few weeks that will go a very long way to defining what league Albion will be playing their football in for 2026-27.

It starts with Coventry at home on 21 February, and it would seem unlikely they get a clean sheet out of that game, so they may need a couple of goals if they want to beat the Sky Blues.

Then come multiple relegation six-pointers against Charlton, Oxford and Sheffield United, and if Albion don’t win those games, they could be made to pay with a tough final run-in of fixtures.
