West Brom fans slam ‘pathetic’ Jake Livermore comments on Carlos Corberan: ‘Laughable’
Jake Livermore has not endeared himself to West Brom supporters with his latest outburst about former Baggies manager Carlos Corberan.
While Livermore didn’t play much under Corberan, the former West Brom captain has outlined why he felt the Spaniard never worked out at The Hawthorns.
Livermore said: “I know he was very, very good at what he did. But, again, we got to a stage where things became too intense without the results to show for it. And, again, when you aren’t backing performances up with results, people turn.”
The comment about things being ‘too intense’ has not landed well with supporters in B71, who have responded online to the Englishman’s claim.
West Ham fans blast Jake Livermore for Carlos Corberan comments
Over recent years, Corberan has perhaps been West Brom’s most successful manager. Under the stewardship of the 42-year-old, he guided the Baggies to a ninth and fifth-place finish.
That has been the Midlands club’s highest Championship placement since returning to the second tier in 2021-2022.
It wasn’t to be for Corberan at West Brom, as they failed to capitalise on that fifth-place position in 2023-2024, losing to Southampton in the play-off semi-finals.
Either way, the Spaniard is still a revered figure at the club, which is why Livermore’s latest comments have not been met positively.
West Brom supporters gathered to X to respond to their former captain.
One Baggies fan stated: “Pathetic, Jake. [He was] the only coach that got these players working.”
Another West Brom supporter said: “Imagine where we would be if Carlos had less of that intensity…”
Meanwhile, another stated: “Took the team from 23rd to 3rd (briefly) and the players slag him off. Albion players in that period were absolutely pathetic. Many of them were getting paid tens of thousands a week.”
Overall, it seems that Livermore’s words on Corberan have completely backfired on him, with the former West Brom skipper losing credibility among supporters.
What has Corberan said about Livermore previously?
While Livermore may be critical of Corberan’s time at West Brom, the Spanish manager appreciated the role the Englishman took up during his final season in B71.
Speaking about the former Baggies midfielder in 2023, Corberan said: “Some players will unfortunately be out of the squad, but he is someone who is never going to give up. He is an example of how to train and how to manage these different situations.”
Right now, West Brom would do well to return to the days of the 42-year-old in the dugout, as current head coach Eric Ramsay has failed to live up to the task.
West Brom are currently amid a relegation battle, just years after dreaming of a Premier League return.
Ramsay, since taking over, has yet to win a game.
