Alfie Gilchrist has a stinker, Isaac Price best of a terrible bunch – West Brom player ratings vs Coventry

West Brom fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Coventry City on Saturday.

Eric Ramsay‘s winless run at the helm goes on, with the Baggies failing to win all eight matches across all competitions since his arrival.

After Albion started on the front foot, Coventry would open the scoring after just five minutes via a lovely Ephron Mason-Clark dink.

Jack Rudoni would double the lead in the 32nd minute, with a beautiful strike from distance.

Saturday’s loss at The Hawthorns leaves West Brom dangling above the relegation zone, with Leicester just a point behind as a result of their 2-2 draw with Stoke.

Alfie Gilchrist hooked after poor display

Things went from bad to worse for Alfie Gilchrist throughout the first half.

Playing a huge part in Coventry’s opening goal, the defender would be caught in no mans land as Mason-Clark raced through one-on-one with Max O’Leary just five minutes in.

Sprinting back, Gilchrist could not quite recover as he failed to clear the ball off the line following a lovely dink from the Coventry attacker.

Looking incredibly uncomfortable on the ball, Gilchrist struggled throughout the first half, and was at the crime scene once again as he allowed Rudoni to drive into acres of space, before the Sky Blues’ midfielder rattled in his first goal in 20 outings.

To make matters even worse, George Campbell would replace Gilchrist after 40 minutes, who would look much more comfortable out at right-back.

Isaac Price flatters to deceive as West Brom lose vs Coventry

Midfielder Isaac Price would continue to be lively throughout the encounter, as Albion looked to play on the break against the Championship leaders.

The Northern Irishman would have plenty of touches, and was present in almost every counterattacking opportunity the hosts were able to create, though the required quality was simply not there in the final third.

The versatile midfielder attempted four crosses in the defeat, but failed to find a man with each of these, while his 79th-minute effort proved too comfortable for Coventry’s Carl Rushworth – his first save of the match.

While not entirely his fault, given the fact that he was at the heart of most things positive from West Brom today, his run now stretches to just one goal contribution since November, after a positive start to the campaign from the 22-year-old.
