Shilen Patel to sign off on West Brom relegation early amid James Morrison update
West Brom are currently hurtling towards relegation, and Shilen Patel may be waving the white flag amid a new update about James Morrison.
Eric Ramsay’s position at The Hawthorns is under immense threat, as results after he replaced Ryan Mason have not improved.
The Englishman has not won a game since taking over, and the Baggies are just one point above the relegation zone.
Right now, it seems like a matter of when and not if Ramsay is relieved from his duties, but the latest reports, which include Morrison, may not provide much hope.

James Morrison could be named interim head coach at West Brom
Morrison has been West Brom‘s head coach on two separate occasions in an interim capacity. When Tony Mowbray was sacked in April 2025, the former Baggies midfielder took over.
Additionally, as the Midlands clubs sought a replacement for Mason in January, he was handed the duty of taking over the team once again.
Now, if Patel is to make a decision over the future of Ramsay, Morrison could be in line to get the job for a third time.
That is according to Give Me Sport, who report: “It’s possible that [Morrison] could take up that role once again should the board decide to make a change.”
While he only took charge of three games in those two aforementioned spells, the results were positive, with two wins and one draw.

Shilen Patel would be signing West Brom’s relegation with Morrison decision
However, Patel putting Morrison back into the position of caretaker manager would be a catastrophic mistake for West Brom.
While Morrison may one day be an excellent manager, his lack of experience right now is a major risk for the B71 side, who desperately need to stay up.
Taking that chance on the former Scotland international would essentially be resigning to ending up in League One for next season.

It seems clear that the Baggies need to make a change in the dugout, but while survival is still a possibility, there is little time to waste.
The next appointment must be a ready-made coach who has experience of being in the position that West Brom have found themselves in.
Patel has already tried using two young and up-and-coming coaches in Mason and Ramsay, and that has ultimately backfired.
The ownership simply cannot afford to make the same decision for the third time in one season.
