Everything we know about Will Still as West Brom line up interim hire

West Brom are said to be looking at bringing Will Still to The Hawthorns.

West Brom host Charlton on Tuesday night, and anything less than a win could spell the end for Eric Ramsay‘s time with the Baggies.

The 34-year-old has failed to win any of his eight games in charge of Albion, with pressure mounting on him ahead of the final 13 games of the season.

As a result, it has been reported that the Baggies are lining up a potential move for Still until the end of the season, just months on from his exit from Southampton.

What went wrong for Will Still at Southampton?

Still was sacked after just five months at Southampton, having won just two of his first 13 games in charge of the Saints.

Southampton were 21st in the table when Still departed with just 12 points, and they have since climbed the table up to 11th, and are just four points outside of the play-offs.

On paper, it looks as though his time with the Saints was disastrous, and the results would back that up, but the underlying numbers were very promising.

Southampton suffered a 3-1 defeat to Bristol City back in October, but had 67 per cent possession, created 2.2 xG and completed 84 per cent of their attempted passes.

But for whatever reason, that was a theme throughout his time there, with the chances being created simply not being finished.

Would Still be a good fit for West Brom?

Had this question emerged at the end of the season when safety had been secured, the answer would probably be yes.

Still would bring an exciting style of play that, with time, would start to garner results in the Championship and get West Brom back to where they should be.

However, that is not the case, and if a new manager is to come in between now and the end of the season, they need to be a profile with experience of dealing with the current situation.

West Brom can’t afford to make yet another managerial error as they did with Mason and Ramsay, and if they do, it will result in relegation to League One.

And as many teams will be able to tell you, it can be a very long, strenuous road back from there.
