Sean Dyche, Russell Martin and the other favourites to succeed Eric Ramsay at West Brom

Sean Dyche and Russell Martin are among the favourites to replace Eric Ramsay at West Brom following his sacking on Tuesday.

Less than two months after dismissing Ryan Mason, West Brom have swung the axe on Ramsay – who lasted just nine games.

The 34-year-old was appointed on a two-and-a-half-year deal on 11 January but since taking over, the former Manchester United coach has seen their seven-point gap to the relegation zone shrink to just one.

Had it not been for Leicester City’s six-point deduction for breaking Profit and Sustainability Rules, 21st-placed West Brom would be in the bottom three.

Now, attention has turned to who owner and chairman Shilen Patel will appoint next following the Baggies’ 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.

Sean Dyche and Russell Martin trail West Brom hero

West Brom are looking for their fourth head coach in just 14 months, as the Baggies try and stave off relegation to League One.

As West Brom are a big club, they may be able to attract more eye-catching managerial names than other sides in the Championship.

But due to their precarious position, some coaches may be put off, as there won’t be time for them to have a slow start with 12 games remaining this season.

Regardless, one leading bookmaker has outlined the top six names most likely to take the job at The Hawthorns, with West Brom first-team coach and former player James Morrison leading the odds.

West Brom’s potential managerial candidatesOdds
James Morrison2/1
Russell Martin5/1
Sean Dyche6/1
Slaven Bilic6/1
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer8/1
Lee Carsley10/1

Among the other names are recently sacked Nottingham Forest boss Dyche, and former Southampton and Rangers manager Martin.

Ex-Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also been mooted, as has former West Brom boss Slaven Bilic.

After a number of poor managerial appointments, West Brom need to get this next one spot on.

What other names have been mentioned for West Brom job?

It seems unlikely that Dyche would drop down to the Championship after managing in the Premier League for so long.

Martin may want another crack at a top-flight team, and Solskjaer is notoriously picky with which jobs he goes for.

Further down the bookies’ odds, Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala has been linked but he looks primed to guide them to promotion from League One.

Will Still is out of work after being sacked by Southampton earlier this season, while former West Brom bosses Carlos Corberan and Darren Moore aren’t at too long an odds.

West Brom’s other possible optionsOdds
Michael Skubala2/1
Will Still10/1
Ruud van Nistelrooy12/1
Darren Moore12/1
David Wagner16/1
Carlos Corberan20/1
Ralph Hasenhuttl20/1
Alex Neil20/1

Corberan is currently managing Valencia in La Liga so a return to West Brom seems very remote for now.

Alex Neil is in the thick of a play-off push with Millwall but David Wagner is an option after leaving Norwich City in 2024.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, though, is likely to be out of the equation as he has just been named as assistant coach for the Dutch national team ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

These are dark times for West Brom and they cannot afford to make any more mistakes.
