Tim Sherwood has just had his say on next West Brom manager – and there can be no complaints
Tim Sherwood has suggested that West Brom need to look in the direction of experience ahead of their next managerial appointment.
Eric Ramsay was sacked following the Baggies’ 1-1 draw with Charlton on Tuesday, after failing to win any of his nine matches in charge.
Former midfielder James Morrison has been put in charge at The Hawthorns temporarily, with West Brom locked in a relegation battle.
Albion travel to Oxford on Saturday, where they are in desperate need of three points against their fellow strugglers,
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Sherwood expressed how crucial it is that the next managerial appointment is the right one.

Tim Sherwood outlines importance of experience for West Brom
Albion are in desperate need of points, fast.
Speaking on Sky Sports News following the recent events in the Black Country, Sherwood said: “Listen, they need someone to keep them in the league.
“In the short term, for sure, they need someone who knows the division. I mean they haven’t got the worst squad in the league, have they?”
The Baggies endured a tough opening half of the season under Ryan Mason, who was replaced by Ramsay in January. Though, things would continue to go from bad to worse at The Hawthorns.
Sherwood added: “What did Eric Ramsay get in the league? One point? Two points? I mean, any man in the street can get two points. That ain’t good enough. Possibly he tried to complicate it too early. Similar to Ruben Amorim, maybe?
“But at a different level. Sometimes you just need to keep it nice and simple, play the players in the positions where they’re best, and hopefully, as a collective, they can start picking up some results.”
Now in the hunt for their third manager of the season, Sherwood believes that Albion are in desperate need of experience ahead of the season’s crunch point.
“Someone who gets this job, the board have to trust them. You can’t get someone in there and baffle them with science and PowerPoint presentations and justifications why they do X, Y, and Z. It doesn’t matter.
“Go and employ someone who’s actually done the job in the Championship and got results before. It’s just for the short-term, and then give yourself a breather at the end of the season and see where you are from there.”
West Brom missed the memo that fellow strugglers received
With the Baggies struggling at the wrong end of the division, they have found themselves in a tight relegation fight alongside Leicester and Blackburn.
But, both of those mentioned clubs looked to go in an entirely different direction with their managerial appointments.
Bringing in Gary Rowett and Michael O’Neil respectively, the Foxes and Rovers have clearly signalled their direction – Championship experience.
| West Brom’s potential managerial candidates | Odds |
| Darren Moore | 2/1 |
| James Morrison | 2/1 |
| Russell Martin | 8/1 |
| Sean Dyche | 10/1 |
| Slaven Bilic | 10/1 |
| Ole Gunnar Solskjaer | 12/1 |
Results have since shown the impact, with Blackburn extending their gap to the drop zone, while Leicester have picked up back to back points away at Stoke and Middlesbrough.
Following the sacking of Mason in January, the decision to rip up one project and start anew under Ramsay seems even more baffling as time goes on.
With Rowett in particular now a seasoned second tier expert, West Brom have left themselves incredibly vulnerable, with only a temporary man in charge in James Morrison.
Compared to their rivals, the Baggies very much missed the experience memo.
