Shilen Patel in dire £11m mess of his own making as West Brom stare at the inevitable
Shilen Patel is in deep financial trouble as West Brom’s 2-1 loss to Oxford United on Saturday has increased the fears of relegation from the Championship.
The Baggies have won two points from the last 42 available away from home, which has proved to be devastating for their league form.
With James Morrison in caretaker charge for the second time this campaign, the situation in B71 is a mess, and Patel needs to hire a permanent appointment as soon as possible.
Otherwise, West Brom will likely drop down to League One, and the financial ramifications would be incredibly damaging.

West Brom could miss out on £11m if they are relegated
Championship clubs earn between £9.5-£12.5million in revenue from domestic and international TV rights, as well as the payments made from the Premier League to EFL clubs.
However, an article from Wales Online in April 2025 reveals that League One clubs only generate around £800,000-£900,000 from TV rights every year, with international TV rights adding £300,000-£500,000 per year.
This means that the Baggies are staring at a potential £11m loss, which would be a disaster for the Black Country club’s financial position.
Saturday’s loss to Oxford United leaves the Baggies one point clear of the relegation zone in 21st place, but with 11 games to go, they face a very tough set of fixtures in the coming weeks.
Although Morrison understands the demands of West Brom supporters, he simply hasn’t got the ability to guide them to safety.

Therefore, Patel can’t afford to continue with him in charge, or else he could suffer a terrible financial loss.
West Brom’s current situation is of Shilen Patel’s own making
Patel completed the takeover of the Baggies in February 2024, acquiring an 87.8 per cent shareholding in the club via his company Bilkul Football WBA.
Despite initially helping the club overcome financial struggles, West Brom fans are beginning to turn on their chairman.
The appointments of Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay were complete failures, with the latter lasting just 44 days in B71.
| Ryan Mason | Stat | Eric Ramsay |
| 27 | Games managed | 9 |
| 9 | Wins | 0 |
| 5 | Draws | 4 |
| 13 | Losses | 5 |
| 33.33% | Win percentage | 0% |
He also fell out with former club president Andrew Nestor, who departed the club in February, as he opposed the hire of Ramsay.
West Brom are embroiled in chaos behind the scenes, and the blame has to fall on his shoulders, especially if the Baggies drop down to League One.
Patel has to bring in a capable replacement for Ramsay, as that is the least the fans deserve after a dismal campaign.
