West Brom fans vent fury at ‘terrible’ Charlie Taylor as relegation fears deepen vs Oxford United
West Brom are sleepwalking their way towards relegation as they trail Oxford United 2-1 at half-time at Kassam Stadium, with Charlie Taylor in particular struggling.
Stanley Mills opened the scoring for Matt Bloomfield’s side after heading home from Jamie Donley’s corner in the 14th minute.
Will Lankshear, who was on loan at West Brom last season, doubled Oxford United’s lead with another headed goal, before Ollie Bostock pulled one goal back with a deflected strike from distance.
The Baggies are still one point clear of the relegation zone as it stands, and losing to their rivals at the bottom of the table would be a huge blow.
No player has stood out for the Baggies, but Taylor has been singled out for his first-half performance.

Charlie Taylor slammed for weak defending in West Brom vs Oxford United
Taylor’s performances as a centre-back have been dreadful, and fans haven’t been impressed with his impact in B71.
His contract at West Brom runs out in June, and the Baggies definitely need an upgrade in defence.
This could not be clearer after he was out-jumped by Mills for the first goal, and his weak defending typified the Baggies’ first-half display under James Morrison.
And it’s safe to say that fans online were furious at how bad he has been against Oxford United, and Championship relegation now looks like an even bigger possibility.
One fan said: “Charlie Taylor is terrible, how is he still starting games for us? What a joke costing us another goal yet again.”
Another supporter added: “Charlie Taylor and Jed Wallace in the big 2026. No wonder we’re going down.”
Mikey Johnston injury deepens West Brom’s woes
Johnston has arguably been West Brom’s best player this season, and fans were hopeful he could have an impact on the match.
Having started just two of their last five games due to fitness issues, it was heartbreaking to see him hobble off in the 22nd minute.
He was replaced by Bostock, who scored his first Championship goal for the Baggies, but Johnston’s creativity will be dearly missed in the second half.
| Stat | Johnston |
| Appearances | 33 |
| Goals | 2 |
| Assists | 9 |
| Chances created | 56 |
| Touches in opposition box | 91 |
The Sofascore stats show how dangerous he can be, and his total of nine assists in the league is only bettered by Gustavo Hamer (10).
If his injury is serious, then West Brom’s relegation fears are worsened, and it’s the last thing that the Baggies wanted in Saturday’s clash.
