Will Lankshear speaks out ahead of West Brom reunion with Oxford United

Will Lankshear will face off against West Brom once again on Saturday afternoon.

Lankshear spent the second-half of last season on loan at The Hawthorns, but he failed to notch a single goal for the Baggies.

Tottenham sent him on loan to Oxford United for this campaign, and he scored when the sides last met in November and he will face his former side again on 28 February at the Kassam Stadium.

He has now opened up on his spell with West Brom, which never went the way that either side wanted it to.

What did Lankshear say about West Brom?

Lankshear admitted that he still has respect for the Black Country club, and he learnt a lot from his loan despite not scoring.

He seems to hold no resentment for how his spell in Birmingham went, and was very classy with his comments about his ex-club.

In quotes reported by The Herald Series on 27 February, the 20-year-old said: “I didn’t manage to score at West Brom, but I think it was such a good loan for me, I learnt a lot.

“My first loan; I think everybody’s first loan doesn’t really go the way you’d like it to go, but actually, I took a lot from it.

“I have a lot of respect for West Brom. It’s a massive club, I think it’s a great club.”

Can West Brom stop Lankshear?

West Brom need to secure victory against the U’s, as the West Midlands side are currently sitting in 21st place in the Championship.

The Yellows are 23rd in the table, firmly inside the relegation zone, six points behind the Baggies, so there is no excuse not to win.

Lankshear has managed six goals in 32 league appearances so far this season, and the Throstles need to find a way to keep him quiet when he plays against them this time around.

They need the likes of Charlie Taylor and Nat Phillips to use their physicality to bully the young forward, and stop him from getting behind the lines and making an impact.

If they cannot, he has already shown that he can bag against the B71 side earlier in the campaign, and will fancy his chances of making his mark on the contest.

They cannot let that happen, they must suffocate him and make him believe that it is not going to be his day, so that his head drops and he does not perform to his usual level.

That will give interim manager James Morrison the best possible chance to get three points and pull away from the drop zone.
