Aune Heggebo is exposing West Brom’s biggest issue this season, stats show why
Aune Heggebo hasn’t scored a goal for West Brom in 2026.
West Brom aren’t just in a relegation battle; they are hurtling towards League One football at quite a rapid pace.
And fingers will be pointed at Ryan Mason, Eric Ramsay and perhaps more importantly, at Shilen Patel, though the biggest issue is far more deep-rooted than that.
With nine goals for the Baggies this season, Heggebo certainly doesn’t seem like the problem, and he isn’t.
However, his recent form has exposed what the main concern at The Hawthorns is, and why it is something that can’t be addressed overnight.

Aune Heggebo’s form is a result of West Brom’s biggest issue
If you ask any West Brom fan what the issue has been this season, you would get a different answer.
Howeverm it can be agreed universally that this side have been stripped of their confidence, and that is not only demonstrated by recent results, but also performances from some of those who were thriving earlier in the campaign.
And Heggebo is the perfect example of that, having not had a goal involvement for Albion since their 2-0 win over Sheffield United prior to Christmas.
While it wasn’t exactly promotion form at the time, West Brom were being competitive in games, and there was still belief in the squad that something could come from the current campaign.
But since that win, the Baggies have only picked up three points on one occasion, which coincides with Heggebo’s downturn in form.

He, like many playing their football at The Hawthorns, thrives on confidence levels, and if James Morrison is to rescue his side from relegation, he needs to find a way to instil that back into his players.
What can James Morrison change to improve West Brom’s fortunes?
At this stage, Morrison just needs to try something.
But the most obvious thing to change at Albion would be to see them utilise two players up top together, which is something they have rarely done this season.
Not only would it allow more space for the likes of Mikey Johnston and Isaac Price, but it would prevent their forward players from being isolated.
That has been a big concern this season, whether it has been Heggebo or Josh Maja leading the line, with Albion failing to get players close enough to them to impact games.
A move to a formation with two up front would allow that, and it could, in turn, see results start going their way.
