West Brom miss out on exactly what they need as Neil Warnock appointment confirmed

West Brom are in desperate need of an experienced manager like Neil Warnock as the relegation battle hots up.

The Baggies are in a precarious position right now, sitting just one point above Leicester City in the Championship bottom three.

Things certainly haven’t been helped by a 2-1 defeat away to 23rd-placed Oxford United as James Morrison took interim charge once again.

There have been many calls from The Hawthorns faithful to bring in a head coach with experience of battling against relegation, but one option, Warnock, has moved elsewhere.

Neil Warnock lands 21st managerial role with latest appointment

There is no hiding from the fact that the B71 outfit is in massive trouble and is in need of a huge turnaround this season.

Someone like the 77-year-old would have likely been accepted by supporters as a firefighting option with 11 games to go.

The call to bring him in wasn’t made, and now he has taken up another job after being announced as the temporary boss of Torquay United.

The National League South sacked manager Paul Wotton on Sunday and moved to bring in the ex-Cardiff City boss in as interim.

Warnock will now oversee an upcoming clash with Farnborough as he prepares to begin the 21st managerial role of his career and his second spell at Torquay.

That will temporarily block any chance of West Brom getting the Englishman in, something which may prove to be a regret.

West Brom set to face relegation battle without specialist

Morrison is a well-respected figure in the Black Country and could go on to have a positive impact in The Hawthorns dugout.

The former midfielder represents a risk as interim boss due to his lack of experience, something which can’t be questioned with Warnock.

He is arguably knowledgable head coach at this level, especially when battling relegation, so bringing him in would make total sense.

For the final weeks of the season, to have a man manager with his skillset to come in may make all the difference for the Baggies.

It seems as if the B71 outfit won’t go down that route, especially with Warnock now at Torquay United, something that may prove to be a mistake.
