Mikey Johnston may have played final West Brom game as new injury update shared
Mikey Johnston has suffered a stress fracture to his ankle.
The Republic of Ireland international lasted just 22 minutes in West Brom’s latest defeat away to Oxford, having suffered what initially seemed like a fairly innocuous ankle injury.
However, tests have revealed that Johnston suffered a stress fracture to his ankle, with the Baggies winger due to see a specialist later in the week.
A full prognosis will be established then, with a return date expected to be communicated.
However, the timeline of an injury of that scale could see him ruled out for the rest of the season.
How long does an ankle stress fracture take to heal?
Typically, an injury of this nature can take anywhere from six to 12 weeks to heal, with players usually ruled out for a minimum of eight weeks.
While the full extent of the damage is yet to be revealed, it is likely to be the length of time that Johnston is to sit on the sidelines.
And if so, it would see him miss the rest of the campaign, with the final game to be played on 11 April, which is only six weeks from now.
Johnston was heavily linked with an exit from West Brom in January, with Flamengo having shown a strong interest.

That interest is likely to remain in the summer, especially if the Baggies are relegated, meaning the 26-year-old may have already played his final game for the club.
Who could replace Mikey Johnston at West Brom?
Johnston has been the player that West Brom have looked towards for the moments of magic, and his absence will come as a huge blow.
However, it will open up a huge opportunity for either Ollie Bostock or Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba to make their mark under James Morrison.
Bostock was the man who replaced Johnston at the time of the injury, and the 19-year-old scored the Baggies’ only goal of the game at the Kassam.
Jimoh-Aloba has started just three games since his arrival at The Hawthorns, and given the fact he won’t be here next season, it would make little sense for him to get the nod over one of West Brom’s own.
