West Brom not done after James Morrison and Matt Gill news as another appointment expected

West Brom confirmed that James Morrison will continue as West Brom interim boss until the end of the season on Wednesday.

The update also confirmed that Albion have welcomed highly respected technical coach Matt Gill who joins Morrison‘s backroom team.

The decision comes before the Baggies take on Sheffield United this Saturday, in an attempt to galvanise the players and fans for a crucial Championship relegation battle.

However, it appears that West Brom are not done adding improvements to their backroom team just yet.

West Brom working for one more coaching addition

According to the respectable West Brom account, EyaWeGew on X, the Baggies are still working on adding one more coaching addition.

It’s not yet known what department the Baggies are looking to add the coach to, but one thing is for sure: any help will be welcomed at this stage of the campaign.

Regardless, the news around Morrison may split opinion among the Baggies supporters, given that some were desperate for Slaven Bilic to return to The Hawthorns.

But the truth is, if Albion were to stay up, the decision to keep Morrison on until the end of the season will only aid them in a true upgrade on Eric Ramsay for the next campaign.

Shilen Patel and Co. now have time to make a thorough assessment of who they will pick to be the next head coach of the Albion, which is possibly better than any knee-jerk reaction right now.

What has James Morrison said about Matt Gill appointment?

It’s certainly a bold move for Patel to keep Morrison on, and is obviously one that could still backfire.

But what the Baggies have is someone in charge of the club who just gets it. He knows what the fans want to see, and he’ll do his best to pick the strongest squad possible for each game coming up.

The interim boss won’t have done himself any harm by adding Gill to his coaching setup, and seems rather pleased to have landed the first-team coach.

Morrison said: “Matt is a first-class coach with an outstanding character, and I am convinced he will help us turn the tide on what has obviously been an incredibly poor season to date.”

Time will tell, but Albion need to put it all together now, with one potential appointment possibly yet to arrive.
