West Brom fans may not like it, but Championship survival rests on Isaac Price

Isaac Price has been coming in for heavy criticism from many West Brom supporters in recent weeks.

Stemming largely from Price‘s tense full-time confrontation with West Brom fans at Portsmouth on 31 January, the attacking midfielder’s relationship with The Hawthorns faithful has fractured.

Having signed in January 2025 in a £2.5million deal with Standard Liege, the Northern Ireland international enjoyed an excellent first few months as a Baggies player.

Price instantly adopted a key starting role during the second half of 2024-25, displaying some wonderful creative ability that had seen him strike up an instant relationship with many Albion supporters.

However, with those feelings now souring, Price’s production has nosedived in 2026, with just one goal contribution in the calendar year so far.

Isaac Price has the star quality to save West Brom’s season

With James Morrison now confirmed to be staying on as interim head coach of West Brom for the remainder of the season, the 39-year-old Baggies legend needs his best players to step up for him.

No West Brom supporter would deny that when at his best, Price is an excellent player at Championship level, and at 22, still has so much room for future growth and improvement to his game as well.

Therefore, despite the fact he’s far from winning any popularity contests in B71 at the moment, he’s absolutely not the only Albion player performing below expectation levels this season.

And, for right or for wrong, his heated exchange with the travelling West Brom fans at Fratton Park did at least prove that he cares about the football club, and is also hurt by the situation Albion find themselves in.

With every point having the potential to make all the difference between relegation and survival now, the Baggies need to find invention and quality from somewhere. Anywhere.

Price is one of the players in this team that we know has match-winning ability residing in his boots, and so it’s players such as him that really hold the key to Championship survival this term.

One goal, or one moment of brilliance could be the catalyst for a revival in confidence, and a confident and fired up Price might just be all Albion need to avoid the drop.

West Brom are going to need Price massively in coming games

Unfortunately for West Brom, things are not getting any easier for them when it comes to their Championship fixture schedule, and in fact, it’s getting tougher.

An away trip to Sheffield United on Saturday is followed by back-to-back home games against promotion-chasing Hull and Southampton respectively.

Bristol City, Wrexham, Millwall, Watford and Ipswich are all still on the agenda before the end of the season too, meaning if Albion are going to stay up, they’re going to have to do it the hard way.

Therefore, now is the perfect time for Price to show what he’s made of, as in this gauntlet of brutal fixtures, he could be primed to go from villain to hero with the Baggies faithful.
