West Brom vs Southampton preview: Team news, lineups and prediction
West Brom are desperate to secure their first Championship win in 2026 when they host Southampton at The Hawthorns on Wednesday.
James Morrison’s side sit just one point above the relegation zone, and it’s safe to say that the fear of relegation is growing every week in B71.
Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United was a huge improvement, but it’s clear that they need to start recording wins, or they’ll be playing in the third tier of English football for the first time since 1993.
And it doesn’t get much easier for the Baggies, as they face Tonda Eckert’s Southampton, who are sitting eighth in the table and just knocked Premier League side Fulham out of the FA Cup.
West Brom News highlights everything you need to know ahead of Wednesday’s match at The Hawthorns.

Form guide
West Brom (last six games all comps): D L D L L D
Southampton (last six games all comps): W W W D W W
Head-to-head
When both sides met earlier in the season, Southampton raced into a 3-0 lead, and the Baggies were completely demolished in the first half.
However, they mounted a late comeback, and despite losing 3-2 at St Mary’s, they felt unlucky not to earn at least a point from that match.
Truth be told, West Brom haven’t had much joy against the Saints in recent years, which is made most clear by their Championship playoff semi-final loss in 2023-24.
Southampton have won eight of their last 10 league games against West Brom, as many as they had in their previous 22.
Overall, West Brom have won 25, lost 36 and drawn 25 matches with Southampton.

Team news and predicted lineups
Although Tammer Bany, Chris Mepham, Karlan Grant and Mikey Johnston are on the sidelines, Morrison has the rest of his squad available.
Josh Maja could start alongside Aune Heggebo up front, replacing Daryl Dike after his ineffective performance against Sheffield United.
Another change Morrison could make to the team is to recall Charlie Taylor in place of Krystian Bielik, who was subbed off at half-time at Bramall Lane.
As for Southampton, they have the majority of their players fit, with only Mads Roerslev, Wellington and Jay Robinson unavailable.

West Brom predicted XI: O’Leary; Imray, Campbell, Taylor, Styles; Molumby, Diakite; Price, Bostock; Heggebo, Maja
Southampton predicted XI: Peretz; Bree, Harwood-Bellis, Stephens, Manning; Bragg, Charles, Matsuki, Azaz, Scienza; Larin
We say: West Brom 1-1 Southampton
At this point, predicting West Brom to win a game of football feels entirely implausible.
Southampton are in electric form, winning six of their last eight league games, as many as they had in their previous 19.
The Baggies are currently without a victory in 15 Championship away matches, and their home form hasn’t been much better since the turn of the year.
However, given last week’s performance, the fans will be firmly behind the team, and West Brom definitely have the quality to breach Southampton’s defence.
Therefore, 1-1 draw could be the most likely outcome, and that point could prove to be extremely valuable at the end of the campaign.
