Isaac Price rubbishes West Brom critics after Southampton scenes – he clearly cares

Isaac Price put any allegations that he does not care about West Brom’s relegation fight to bed in the 1-1 draw over Southampton.

Price was slammed after the Sheffield United draw last time out when it looked as though he was not celebrating George Campbell’s equaliser.

He has had bust-ups with West Brom supporters too, like the one after the 3-0 loss to Portsmouth in January when he approached the away end at Fratton Park and had to be held back by Daryl Dike.

However, the star was brilliant at The Hawthorns on 11 March against the Saints as James Morrison‘s side took home one point after a late Cyle Larin leveller.

What did Price do in West Brom draw?

Price was all over the pitch for the Baggies, fighting for everything and trying to double their lead over Tonda Eckert’s side.

He attempted three shots in the contest, with two on target for a total expected goals tally of 0.22, according to Sofascore.

The Northern Ireland ace made two key passes and completed three of the seven crosses that he attempted as he tried to assist one of his teammates.

He misplaced five of his 25 pass attempts, to record a success rate of 80 per cent in the clash, but was especially comfortable in his own half, with 92 per cent accuracy.

Price had 47 touches and lost possession 12 times, and made eight carries for a total distance of 57.5m as he tried to take his side forward.

Perhaps the statistics that prove he cares the most are the defensive ones though, he won two of four tackles that he attempted, made three recoveries and won six of the 10 ground duels that he contested.

Why Price is crucial to West Brom survival hopes

The Baggies need Price to keep up this kind of form if they are to escape relegation danger.

He was magnificent on the night, and if he can continue to play like, he should help them survive in the second-tier.

If he cannot, though, and struggles to maintain that level, the Black Country outfit will struggle to keep their Championship status next season.

They need the 28-cap international to step up and play a pivotal part in their survival battle in the next few weeks.

If he can manage to do so, he may well restore his reputation with the fanbase, but his commitment to the cause cannot be doubted after his showing against the Saints.
