James Morrison puts Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay to shame already with West Brom admission

James Morrison looks to be having a big impact at West Brom, even if results have not exactly been perfect.

The Baggies have picked up two points in their last two games, with their 1-1 draw against Sheffield United followed up with the same scoreline against Southampton.

Morrison’s side did suffer late heartbreak at The Hawthorns, with Cyle Larin netting an equaliser for the play-off chasing Saints on Wednesday night.

But Morrison’s response following the proceedings has been received well within the Albion fanbase.

Looking to take accountability, the former midfielder put predecessors Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay to shame, despite West Brom still sitting in the bottom three of the Championship.

James Morrison puts predecessors to shame with Southampton response

West Brom are scrapping for their lives at the bottom of the Championship, and went into Wednesday’s clash in desperate need of a win following Leicester’s triumph against Bristol City on Tuesday.

The Baggies led for almost the entirety of the second half thanks to Jayson Molumby’s opener before the break, before Canadian striker Larin guided in a header off the crossbar in the dying moments.

Taking accountability immediately after the game, Morrison said: “I have mixed emotions. I am really proud of the players after a good performance. I asked them to leave everything out on the pitch, and they did.

“There will be some disappointment with the goal. For the throw-in, I don’t know why we are throwing it in the box.

“And then can we stop the cross. We were a bit deep in the box. It’s some finish and it hits the bar and the post.

“With that, I am a bit disappointed, but I am upbeat and that’s the benchmark now.”

Following their respective appointments, both Mason and Ramsay were insistent on deploying their own style of play – indicative of themselves as younger coaches looking to make their way in the game.

It is more baffling for the latter in particular, who simply had no chance of implementing his ideas mid-season, with the squad already downtrodden.

The accountability from Morrison is extremely refreshing. The errors were pointed out and discussed, while he looks to work on these heading into Saturday’s clash against Hull City.

With his predecessors looking to soften things in their post-match verdict, the level of honesty from Morrison is fantastic for Baggies fans to hear with the current situation at hand.

West Brom have a fighting chance under James Morrison

After falling to defeat against Oxford in Morrison’s first match at the helm, the Baggies have responded well in recent weeks.

Plenty of fight has been shown against Sheffield United and Southampton, which at the end of the day is all that can be asked for against two sides carrying much more quality.

Albion still sit in the drop zone, though the signs are positive.

Morrison knows the club inside and out, and it appears that he is sparking a response among the group.

However, Albion have to get themselves out of danger before time runs out, with just nine Championship outings remaining to secure their status.

The point against Southampton could well have been three, and the response to the late goal will tell supporters everything that they need to know regarding whether Morrison’s side are ready to go on and avoid relegation.
