Andy Johnson in disbelief at what he saw in West Brom win vs Hull City – ‘Wow, wow, wow’
Andy Johnson was shocked to see Charlie Hughes sent off in West Brom’s 3-0 win over Hull City.
The Baggies picked up a much-needed Championship win at The Hawthorns on Saturday as they secured three points for the first time since late December.
Josh Maja opened the scoring with a well-improvised effort as he slid home a Jed Wallace cross after 24 minutes.
The impressive first-half performance was followed by a similar level in the second 45, when Aune Heggebo and Isaac Price netted to make sure of the victory.
James Morrison’s side were certainly deserving of the result, but things were certainly made easier when Hughes was sent off.
Andy Johnson baffled by Charlie Hughes red card vs West Brom
There is no hiding from the fact that Albion dominated the opening exchanges in the Black Country and deserved to take the lead.
Maja’s strike was excellent and showed the true desire of Wallace to latch onto a loose goal kick to create a clear-cut opportunity for the striker.
The skipper was once again instrumental as Hughes was sent off for bringing down the Englishman on the edge of the penalty area.
The Hull man had his pocket picked and brought down the Baggies attacker, but the whole of The Hawthorns expected a yellow card.

Instead, referee Joshua Smith pulled out a red card and left former West Brom striker Andy Johnson confused and overjoyed on BBC Radio WM.
He said: “Wow, wow, wow. Looked like a yellow all day long. [Laughs] I’m not going to say I’m not over the moon about it, but I think the referee has got it wrong.
“I think it’s a yellow card. [Hughes] just makes a complete hash of it, Jed Wallace nicks in, [sighs] it’s not a red card, it’s not.”
Jed Wallace made his own luck vs Hull City
There may be plenty of complaints from the Tigers that the red card shouldn’t have been shown by the match official.
Was it a clear example of denial of a goal-scoring opportunity?

The true answer is no, but if Wallace didn’t show the effort and desire to get into that position, it doesn’t even become a question for the referee.
He hasn’t always been a regular for the Baggies this season, but he showcased why he probably should be with his work rate against Hull.
The Englishman forced a red card and also grabbed an assist in the first half to prove the value he has at The Hawthorns.
