Hull City have grounds to appeal after big call vs West Brom – Exclusive
Hull City could raise a complaint after falling to a 3-0 defeat against West Brom on Saturday.
The Baggies welcomed Sergej Jakirovic’s side to The Hawthorns and secured a massive three points in the relegation battle.
Having dominated large spells of the B71 clash, goals from Josh Maja, Aune Heggebo and Isaac Price sealed a well-deserved result.
James Morrison even had reason to be frustrated that his side hadn’t gone out and scored more against a poor Tigers outfit.
Life was made difficult for Hull after being reduced to 10 men, something which could prompt an imminent appeal.
Hull City backed to appeal Charlie Hughes red card
The hosts took the lead through Maja after Jed Wallace made the most of a loose ball to charge forward and play a perfect low cross into the box.
That wasn’t the only involvement from the Baggies skipper as he played a key role in a highly controversial red card for Charlie Hughes.
The Hull defender was adjudged to have denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity by hauling down Wallace, much to the frustration of the away end.
It’s safe to say that former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett is totally against the decision and has urged the Tigers to appeal the suspension.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Hackett said: “What a very poor decision by the referee.
“This is a foul and does not fulfil the criteria for DOGSO (denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity).
“The law criteria states that the following must be considered: the distance between the offence and the goal, the general direction of the play, the likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball, and the location and number of defenders.”

“There is no likelihood of the player gaining g control of the ball
“Hull should appeal the decision.”
West Brom won’t care about Hughes appeal at Hull
It has been a shocking season at The Hawthorns, and the win against Hull was one of the rare bright moments.
Some may say that it is ill-gotten gains due to the controversy surrounding the red card and the away side’s drop to 10 men.
Morrison and his West Brom players won’t care as they certainly have deserved some form of luck with the way this campaign has gone.
Sometimes you have to make your own, and with Wallace charging down the flank looking to cause problems, he certainly did that.
Hughes may well get away with a suspension, but the Baggies have got the three points, and that is all they will care about.
