West Brom: James Morrison has clearly transformed players after new footage vs Hull

James Morrison is making his mark at West Brom after a crucial 3-0 win over Hull City on Saturday.

Struggling West Brom ended their 13-game winless run in the Championship as they put promotion-chasing Hull City to the sword at The Hawthorns.

Josh Maja’s first goal for the Baggies in the league since 1 October put Morrison‘s side ahead, before second-half goals from Aune Heggebo and Isaac Price lifted them out of the relegation zone.

Defeats for lowly rivals Leicester City and Portsmouth, along with Oxford United’s draw, mean The Hawthorns outfit are now one point above the bottom three in 21st.

While there is still a long way to go before the season finishes, Morrison appears to have got West Brom going again, with the players seemingly giving their backing to the club legend.

West Brom’s risks paying off under James Morrison

Since Eric Ramsay’s sacking last month, Morrison has taken charge of four West Brom games, with the Midlands outfit picking up five points from a possible 12.

After a demoralising defeat to relegation contenders Oxford, West Brom have earned creditable draws with Sheffield United and Southampton.

But the best moment of this brief tenure came in their 3-0 win at Hull, who are fifth in the Championship and are having an excellent season.

West Brom had a much-needed swagger about them against the Tigers, but their battling spirit was plain to see, too.

Indeed, in one instance during the game, four West Brom players swarmed all over Hull, before winning the ball back in the visitors’ box.

Putting four players on one Hull man is a risky strategy, as it could leave West Brom short in defence, leaving the door open for a counter-attack.

But West Brom’s players are clearly committed to the cause under Morrison so far, with his team showing more fight in their last three games than they have for much of the season.

There is still a long way to go, but this is a positive start.

Will West Brom stave off relegation to League One?

There is virtually nothing to choose between the teams hovering in and around the relegation zone, bar already demoted Sheffield Wednesday.

Portsmouth have now been dragged back into the relegation mix, but do have two games in hand on West Brom and the teams around them.

A negative set of results for West Brom could change the complexion of the relegation fight, but for now, Opta Analyst‘s supercomputer is backing the Baggies to stay up.

Opta have West Brom staying up by the finest of margins ahead of Leicester and Oxford, with Morrison’s team predicted to get another nine points from their remaining eight games.

West Brom fans will take that in a heartbeat as the Baggies prepare to face Bristol City, Wrexham and fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers in their next three games.
