Jed Wallace deserves his flowers for tireless performance in West Brom’s win over Bristol City

Jed Wallace was quite simply everywhere for West Brom in their 1-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday.

The Baggies came away from Ashton Gate with a crucial three points in the Championship, and James Morrison may have his skipper to thank.

Wallace has been heavily criticised in an Albion shirt this season, as his best days are seemingly behind him.

However, the right-winger needs to be given praise for his performance, even though George Campbell will get the spotlight for the winning goal.

Wallace was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet against the Robins, but he really rolled back the years with one of his best performances this campaign for West Brom.

Some Baggies fans have suggested that Wallace should be dropped, but Morrison seems to have opted for experience over youth in the fight for Championship survival.

The Albion captain had a chance in the second half to give the Black Country Club a 2-0 lead, but a last-minute block stopped him from bagging his third of the season.

West Brom stats vs Bristol City

Wallace was constantly running down the right-hand side against Bristol, and while his movement opened up space for teammates, he, too, was creating chances.

As highlighted by the Sofascore graphic below, the 31-year-old managed 80 minutes on the pitch against Bristol City, and made an impact at both ends with four tackles and three key passes.

He was unlucky not to get an assist after creating a big chance in the game, as his low 25 per cent dribble ratio showed his determination not to stop attacking.

A 7.1 match rating proved his importance in this one. Morrison will need plenty more of that from Wallace in the run-in.

West Brom surely safe now from what was seen vs Bristol City

The feel-good factor at West Brom is back, and the Baggies have finally gotten back to winning ways on the road.

The win sees Albion clear the relegation zone by four points, as survival now looks closer than ever.

But forget the other results, Morrison looks to have instilled the belief into every Albion player and fan that this can be done.

171 days was the wait for an away win, and they’ve got it, as West Brom have surely sent out a statement to other sides struggling in the Championship.

The international break now looms, and it’s a chance for Morrison to continue the work behind the scenes before the last seven games of the campaign.
