Tony Brown amazed by ‘unbelievable’ Josh Griffiths after stopping West Brom howler vs Bristol City

Tony Brown and the West Brom fans were massively impressed with Josh Griffiths away to Bristol City on Saturday.

James Morrison has done it again as he secured a first away win since the start of October, just a week after victory against Hull City.

The Hawthorns watched an easy enough 3-0 win over the Tigers, while things were a lot more nervy at Ashton Gate.

George Campbell’s goal made all the difference in a 1-0 victory, but Gerhard Struber’s side did their utmost to spoil the Baggies’ party.

Griffiths proved his worth and kept the Robins out, with one moment of quality standing out on the way to three points.

Josh Griffiths halted Callum Styles own goal vs Bristol City

Albion have certainly had their problems all over the pitch in recent months, but the goalkeeper position has certainly been one of those.

Three shot stoppers have featured in between the sticks and have all had moments to forget, that is for sure.

Max O’Leary signed in January and has taken the number one spot, but his injury has handed Griffiths a chance to make his return.

The 24-year-old took that chance at Ashton Gate as he made three top saves, with one somehow stopping a Callum Styles own goal late on.

The ball looked destined for the net when a cross hit the Hungary international, but the keeper kept it out to maintain his clean sheet.

Albion legend Brown was blown away as he reacted to the save live on BBC Radio WM.

He said: “Unbelievable. The cross comes in, and I thought it was going to be an own goal there. It’s a reminder to Albion that they’ve got to be careful.”

Griffiths taking his chance at West Brom

The Englishman returned to The Hawthorns last season as time was called on his impressive loan spell with Bristol City.

He was viewed by many as the replacement for the departing Alex Palmer, but things haven’t really worked out that way.

Griffiths has struggled for consistent form in B71, but his recent and unexpected return to the side has certainly been positive.

As a late substitute against Hull, he saw out a clean sheet before adding to his record with another away to Bristol City.

He certainly played a key role and was one of many reasons the Baggies were able to seal another massive three points in the relegation fight.
