West Brom player ratings vs Bristol City: George Campbell outstanding, Ousmane Diakite monumental

West Brom duo George Campbell and Ousmane Diakite played excellently as James Morrison’s side won 1-0 against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Campbell scored the only goal of Saturday’s game for the Baggies after powering a header home from Callum Styles’ corner in the 26th minute.

In the second half, West Brom had several chances to extend their lead, while Josh Griffiths was called into action at the other end of the pitch.

However, the Baggies managed to hold on for their first away win since the start of October 2025, leaving the travelling supporters delighted for a long-awaited three points on the road.

The result moves West Brom up to 20th place, with Campbell and Diakite standing out for their fine performances.

George Campbell steps up for West Brom once again

Campbell joined the Baggies from CF Montreal in the summer, and he has made 31 Championship appearances this season.

The 24-year-old has been one of the few players to step up in this relegation battle, with Morrison trusting to play at centre-back instead of right-back.

At Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon, Callum Styles delivered a brilliant corner in the 26th minute, which Campbell headed into the ground past Bristol City goalkeeper Radek Vitek.

The American defender has now scored three goals in six games, with his recent efforts against Sheffield United and Charlton Athletic helping the Baggies secure valuable points.

With 15 clearances against the Robins, Campbell typified the fighting spirit shown by every player, and he is becoming one of West Brom’s leaders both on and off the pitch.

The Sofascore stats above show how influential he was against Bristol City, and it’s safe to say that he has established himself as a fan favourite at The Hawthorns.

Ousmane Diakite also superb in midfield vs Bristol City

After providing a supporting role from the bench under both Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, Diakite has stepped up since Morrison’s appointment.

Diakite has committed his future to the Baggies outfit until the summer of 2027, with the Mali international’s contract previously set to expire at the end of the season.

And against Bristol City, he was fantastic alongside Jayson Molumby, breaking up the play and retaining possession when West Brom were under any sort of pressure.
